Why would you assume Britton wasn't selected at random, given that the only evidence against him comes from an alleged self-fantasist and convicted ****phile, and Britton's been cleared by a police investigation? No smoke without fire - is that what you're saying? You'd be great on a jury!

He was a Tory politician at that time. I’m not saying he was a nonce but there are going to be loads in his profession who slipped through the net given it seems to have been a pre-requisite to make it big a few decades ago.
