With the likes of Glenn Murray (36) being linked with a move to the mighty Bluebirds I was wondering, who on the board still plays the beautiful game?
I am now 58 and still play at least once a week, but recovery times after injuries are getting longer and my pace is slowing (snail to slug speed) I am considering retiring. I'd rather play than watch a game, but old father time is dictating the options now. :(

Anyway, who still plays and how young (roughly) are you?
Those that have retired, when and why did you stop?

Last played a serious game about 20 years ago.

Then played squash and tennis competitively.

Now just run, average 30k or so per week. Running is easier on my knees than previous sports.

Never played senior football. Preferred chasing the egg. :emoticon-0173-middl

"Retired" at 33 when work took me from brizzle to cheshire 20 odd years ago. Couldnt be bothered finding a new club.

Played as a sprog locally in Bridgend and District League and then moved up to South Wales Amateur League in my teens. Had a shot at Welsh league with Bridgend Town but came to nothing as moved away with studies and work.

By the time I returned to live in the area in the late 80's I was 30 ish and just had a few run outs but soon accepted I was a Spark without a spark....<laugh>

Working 7 days a week in those days meant I didn't find the time anyway. Now that I work zero days a week, I have the time but not the inclination. Into my 60's now (just :emoticon-0105-wink:) and well happy watching.

Played in the Prediction League last season...experience that was! Some dirty players, some a bit limp...was running away with it...threatened with suspension, various coloured cards...confidence shot...just let it go in the end....not sure if I wasn’ taken from behind at one stage! :emoticon-0103-cool:

Could never kick a ball in a straight line and had the tactical sense of a lemming. However, it has to be said that eben at the ripe old age of 67, I have maintained that level superbly.

Played until I was 42 in the Cardiff leagues and then took up running. Do the Parkrun, some 10k's and the odd half marathon but as I'll be 69 next month I just run for fun now as I've slowed down a lot!

I played for my school but never played in any Welsh league. I had a trial with Bridgend Street, but failed to impress them. :(
Left Wales and played in local leagues in England and Germany plus the British Army league.
Played a few games of rugby, but gave that up in 1991/2 as they players shot up in size and I am only a titch.

Same problem Irish. My Parkrun time is now about 3 minutes slower than 4 years ago and I won't run further than 10k in a competitive event.

Listened to an interesting interview eith the guy who started parkrun.
He set it up for some running mates. Then sort of "franchised" it as it grew.
He said his greatest acheivement is that the average time for a park run is about 10 minutes longer than when he started.
The logic he applied was that when he started it was serious runners taking part. Now everyone has a go .

Over 160,000 runners took part in Junior and Senior Parkruns last weekend. On Easter Saturday I think it was over 190,000.
