labour people seem to think the labour party has a problem with antisemitism Yvette CooperVerified account@YvetteCooperMP 21h21 hours ago Follow Follow @YvetteCooperMP Truly, truly awful watching @BBCPanorama tonight - to see the stress of former staff members who were trying to stand up to antisemitism but most of all to see the pain of Jewish members who our party has so badly let down
Lucy Powell MPVerified account@LucyMPowell 20h20 hours ago Follow Follow @LucyMPowell It was very hard watching #panorama The personal testimonies of Jewish members and former staffers are heartbreaking. I’ve spoken to many Jewish members in my own CLP who have told me similar. I’ve told them, and will tell them again, I’m sorry, and we must do much better.
It must take some serious searching to post up someone’s news sadly that’s the internet and all of our obsession with it ... think of the new generations coming through they will never know what it’s like without it ? Well maybe in a few years when the U.K. cannot afford to pay for imported electricity
I think we can take it for granted that many of the parliamentary Labour Party want to see the back of Corbyn and are quite prepared to jump on the bandwagon to find a stick to beat him over the head with. Can you give examples of Labour MPs who have behaved in a really anti Semitic way ? As opposed to those who have criticized elements of Zionism. Anti Semitism involves the attribution of negative traits or stereotypes towards the whole of the Jewish people and I do not think you will find that any Labour MP has done that.
The short answer to that is no Stan. My membership would be useless to them as a sleeping member here in Germany. I am a member of Bundnis '90 die Grünen (the German Green Party) - it makes more sense for me to be politically active in the place where I live.
David LammyVerified account@DavidLammy 22h22 hours ago Follow Follow @DavidLammy I have always stood in solidarity with all targets of racist abuse. To know that many Jewish people no longer feel welcome in our party breaks my heart. Thank you to former staffers and members for having the courage to speak out. We must do so much better than this.
deputy leader seems to think there may be a problem cologne Tom WatsonVerified account@tom_watson 22h22 hours ago Follow Follow @tom_watson I am shocked, chilled and appalled by what I’ve just seen on Panorama. Hearing the testimony of party members and former staff was harrowing. They are not “disaffected”, they have been incredibly brave. Very serious questions now have to be answered.
Did you hear Tom Watson talking about this? You should give it a listen, it was on the radio 4 Today programme this morning.
The problem comes down to a working definition of Anti Semitism Stan. One which is acceptable to all parties. Apparently it is Anti Semitic to liken activities of the Israeli state to that of the Nazis - I can liken Putin, Saddam Hussein, or just about any other totalitarian government to them, but apparently Israel is immune. It is, apparently, anti Semitic to label Zionism as having a racist element to it - so it was perfectly ok. to label South Africa an Apartheid state but to do the same in the case of Israel (when they do actually practice it) is anti Semitic. There are, apparently, different laws in circulation covering the criticism of Israel which, more or less, place it above the criticism which can be labelled at other states.
It's a massive problem in that it won't go away and he does little to give the impression he will deal with it. Last night's Panorama was a clear indication that the party doesn't appear to take it seriously to the point their Deputy Leader is now openly at odds with Corbyn and his puppet masters...
What has actually been said or done in the form of anti semitism from the labour mps or corbyn? I havent really been following it to be fair. Do we have pure racist comments made by them?
There's nothing by Corbyn or Labour MPs, it's about party members. A bit like Islamophobia in the Tory party, but we don't talk about that.
Oh right. I ain't right arsed about either really. Big daft Boris can openly call Muslim women letter boxes all day long for all I care. Corbyn can back the Palestines over israel all day long for all I care. Have I got that right?
