Its been a long time coming but now worth the wait. And lets not forget to tip our hat to Claude who bought him here in the first place. Just shows where we sit in the scheme of things when players of this caliber are excited to come here.
Surely this is the first time a record signing will deliver. Ulloa aside none have been worth half what we paid Ade Akinbiyi £5M **** Matt Mills £5.5M **** Leonardo Ulloa £8M did what was expected Andrej Kramaric £9M Just didnt work Nampalys Mendy £13M took 2 years to get in the team Ahmed Musa £16M **** Islam Slimani £29M **** Ayoze Perez £30M Youri Tielemans £40M Im sure we will see more then a decent on them 2
He fell in love with the club. Got to give credit to the man who made that possible. Whether or not he’d have stayed permenantly with Puel we won’t know. I’ve said all along that whilst he couldn’t make it work on the pitch, his transfer business and transformation of the squad was amazing and set us up well to attract a manager of Rodgers standing. He’ll go down as a builder. You’ve got it spot on in the past when you’ve said Puel’s strengths within a football club should have lay elsewhere not as manager
There is speculation that we came to a 'gentleman's agreement' with Manchester United to the effect that they offered to curtail their own interest in Youri Tielemans if we agreed to sell Harry Maguire to them, provided a fee could be agreed ... now in isolation that might be taken with a large pinch of salt ... but combined with the news that Celtic have today officially thanked Filip Benkovic for his efforts and wished him all the best for the future has me thinking there may well be something behind it all ...
Is what I heard as well - Evans + Benkovic/Soyuncu/Morgan/Amartey isn't that bad if we want to go down that route... We are also being linked with Mario Lemina from Southampton - apparently "only" want £18m for him but is there a place for him here now?
Thats all bs the Man U fans have been spouting. If Man U really wanted Tielemans then they would have gone for him. The price for Maguire is £90-100M. Tielemans signing for Man U or us wouldnt effect that
Puel’s problem is why he is building something really good. Other parts of the house are falling down The club changed alot when Nigel Pearson took over first time around and alot of the staff he brought still remain here now. Some went to Hull and back and some just stayed Steve Walsh really got us ahead of the game with his scouting system and looking abroad and actually watching players. Getting someone like Tunchev in league 1 says it all Sven went back to buying names and people he knew and when Pearson came back with Walsh we went back to the scouting which has carried on and improved today Yes we get some wrong but with the tv money and the owners we have the money to get the best talent in now which we have proven with players like Ndidi, Ricardo, Tielemans, Maddison, Soyuncu, Benkovic etc Why Man U have fallen massively behind doing what Sven did. Spending stupid amounts on players people know about. It they pay £100M for Maguire. Thats £150M for him and AWB ffs. Just shows how far we have come with a club. In many ways we are far ahead of Man U and Arsenal now. And this season we taking the top 4/5/6 spots
Anyway lets just say for 1 second that is true. We told them leave Tielemans and you can have Maguire I would love us to say “yeah about that, your not having Maguire either now”
Never discounted anything, just stating Puels large part in this transfer. He and his team did great business last summer while Rodgers influence has still yet to be seen. 30 mill for Perez to play where for example?
Puel was the Pearson to Rodgers's Ranieri, can't do anything without a solid foundation. On the flipside, ive heard that Tielemans had no interest in a move to Utd. Hes loved by the fans and the players here, he knows he'll have the spotlight to shine to get a CL club move later on and his bff is here
Need to start clearing some deadwood now Jakupovic, King, James, Kapustka, Silva, Slimani, Diabate all surplus Darnell Johnson, Josh Knight, Elliot Moore will need loan moves sorting and possibly 1 of Soyuncu and Benkovic going out on loan depending what happens with Maguire
Credit is due to Puel for initiating a transition but he's nowhere near Pearson in terms of building a foundation to progress tbe club as a whole, imo. I love that the players love him as much as we do, we know how much can be achieved with a brilliant team spirit.
Callum McGregor is very willing to join us from Celtic despite reports saying otherwise. Daniel Iversen is wanted by Rotherham on loan again. They are now in League 1 so doubt that will happen but he is wanted by other Championship clubs - Brentford wanted him on a permanent transfer but we told them to bugger off.
