This is very nice speculation but do you have any evidence whatsoever that the club is making huge profits which he is pocketing? The accounts tell a story, as do accounts across the country in football clubs. Football club don't make very much money at all. I'm bewildered why people think we are a unique case and we're actually making money hand over fist? Accounts can be doctored somewhat but even that has its limits. What we would be suggesting also is that every club in the country is doctoring accounts constantly to hide huge profits? I don't think this could be going on without authorities taking an interest.
Obviously we are not as pofitable as we could be. With Commercial/matchday revenue being lower currently than what it was in the year prior to Ashley purchasing the club. Also to put this in to context, Spurs have incressed their commerical revenue by over 100% which means not only have theyh overtaken us, they've completed dwarfed anything we could look to aspire to in the near future.
Ashley not paying for advertising, keeping prices genereally low (along with quality) means the club spend very little and aside from the TV money, we bring in very little, which make us "Sustainable".
The problem with sustainability is if your not looking at maximising revenue and income, then you wont have much to spend and you can use this as an excuse. You can use graphs and facts to show how we cant spend because we have no ambition.
Norwich have spent three years in the championship. They have begun pre-season in their new training facilities this summer, they look very smart. Bournemouth have planning permission in for theirs, despite an average attendance of 11,105. They spent £25m or Lerma, £20m on Ake, 19m on solanke, however our 52,000 fanbase and hundreds of millions in TV money cant afford diddly squat.
This is the third year of huge TV money, 17/18 -18/19 and 19/20 of £120m + in TV money.
Bearing in mind our operating costs (year ending June 18 - First year back in the PL) were £119.6m, Whilst income was at £178.5m
Mitro was sold for £22m + bonuses
Armstrong 1.75
Selz 4m
Merino £10m
Other players going for minimal funds, like De jong, Lewis gibson, chancel mbemba
When adding up all the sales, it kind of ties in with the players bought give or take
Schar £3m
Dubravka £4m
Ki - Free
Muto £9m
Fernandez - £6m
Almiron £20m
If we use the template for the first year back in the PL and use that for last year and the upcoming year (TV money goes up but ill use an average of £180m income.
180m Income x 3 = £540m
Costs £120m x 3 = £360m
very basic but £180m, also bear in mind, Nufc confirmed we had £33m cash in the bank when they submitted the 17/18 accounts. so £213m
Our income and costs would have changed marginally. obviously fluctution in costs and expenses is bound to happen. But in a system where our costs are much lower than our income and our transfers pay for themselves, there is no reason why Newcastle couldnt use the forthcoming TV money due in the season to come and spend £150m on players if they so wanted to. This would also allow for an increase in wage and signing on fees etc.
Imagine the amount we could have to spend if we were run with ambition?
However last time we did that under McClaren we got relegated, so fat ash might just be bulding a big pot to pay for our next relegation.
