Juve offer 49.3 Mill for De Ligt

i thought this kid would have been causing a tug of war this summer

He got first hand experience of our club...will know all about Poch and i think we need a CB

Think he’ll cost too much now mate, probably end up going for van Dijk money and I’d say we’ve got bigger priorities than spending that sort of dough on a CB at the moment.

Personally i think we need a RB and CB once we sign the attackin mid we are chasing. Unless we keep Toby then we can put the CB situation to bed for another year or so.

Defence is our weakest department.

i wouldnt bother with a second striker and play Son or Moura there when need be.

Im still embarassed for Moura i hope hes got the fire back...its hard to feel part of something after that snub but heres hoping.

It’s his agent hawking him around for the best deal and the highest wages. Barca seemed to think they had a deal and then his agent upped the ante..

I don’t think our defence is that weak, it was just under too much pressure because we couldn’t control the midfield in the last two seasons like we did when prime Dembele and Wanyama/ Dier were bossing it.

With Ndombele’s arrival hopefully that changes things, even more so if we add Lo Celso/ Ceballos.

RB could definitely do with some tweaking and Toby will need to replaced but I’d much rather see us spend the bulk of our remaining dough on another CM and then RB rather than chucking £70m-ish at CB when we already have Jan and Dave who’ll likely be first choice if Toby goes, with Foyth in reserve and the likes of Davies and Dier who can cover. We’ve been linked with Ake over the season, I’d take him, cheaper and I think he qualifies as HG too.

City getting Ake apparently

neat player

Yeah I saw they were after him too. He’s rumoured to be available for £40m so when you consider Leicester want £90m for Maguire there’s a lot of value in going for Ake (especially if he does qualify as HG which I’m sure he does). Failing getting him if he goes City, we’ve been linked a lot with that Andersen guy.

I think if we were gonna sign de Ligt it should’ve been last summer where he could’ve been got for a similar price to Dave. He also supposedly wants mega money (as in more than Kane) and with Raiola as his agent it’s just gonna be messy.

I doubt Spurs will ever sign a Raiola client while Levy is in charge (have we ever ?? ) .

Same can be said for Jorge Mendes

Also, we did once have a Raiola client on the books - namely Martin Jol

The problem with agency involvement is the disproportionate effect
they have on proceedings. In particular the opportunity for deceit due to
the opaque info pipeline they can create. I know this from 30 odd yrs in industry.

Very few dealings have tripartite contracts where all parties know the %
the agency wishes to take as their cut. I recall reading that Levy sets a max
threshold on the % an agency can take from THFC signings, and if their
cut exceeds that then he will cease interest in their client.

Leicester sign Ayoze Perez for a reported £30m.......I like the player but crazy that he’s that price!

£30m is nothing in football these days though. That’s the reality. It’s the going rate for a player with premier league experience, who’s bouncing from one prem club to another. We’ll probably see a few more like that over the summer.

£30 million is a considerable sum of money Roo and the term 'football' covers much much more than the PL. Of course I appreciate that you are talking in a PL context but this is to ignore the consequences of transfer inflation for the lower leagues and the world of football. These market forces will in the long term cause severe damage to football, when as inevitably happens the market takes a dip through unpredictable circumstances. For example the crash of one of the leading players in the media. It's just another example of unfettered market forces enriching the few to the cost of the many. The market is not inevitable and the human race needs to come to terms with that before the market does for the human race.
Sorry Roo your point is right of course, I have just hijacked it to point out the wider consequences because I hate to see the 'market' go unchallenged.

Completely agree spurf. I’ve thought the same thing for years.
But as you say, it’s the premier league context I’m referring to. Even up to around 2013 or so, when we signed Soldado and Lamela for that sort of money, it was deemed as pricey. But over the last 2-3 years, £30-35m has become the norm. Scary really.

Speaking of valuations/ market prices, anyone else notice we signed Ndombele for cheaper than the expected price?

Many outlets were suggesting we’d pay around £65m with £10m add-ons when in fact we paid €60m (£53.8m) with €10m add-ons (£8.9m) meaning that the max we’d pay in total is around £63m.

Not only is that ideal with regards to our supposed budget as we’re “saving” over £10m to invest elsewhere but when looking at the prices of certain players being sold in recent windows, if Ndombele lives up to the hype, we’ve got ourselves a great deal.

Los Ladrones Raid Watch
Diario AS report that Dani Ceballos isn't the only player the Francoists reject due to him not being cloned from a cocktail of the blood and semen of Pele, Cruyff and Chris Brunt - but we're also reportedly looking at bringing in Mariano Diaz

While that would seem to tick a lot of boxes, both in terms of a backup striker while also fulfilling Poch's requirements of a physical striker whose good in the air as the backup option, there's the obvious drawback: buyback clauses, which is a valid cause for concern considering Los Ladrones sold him to Lyon a couple of seasons ago, but after and impressive season of 18 goals in 34 games they quickly activated the buyback option to stick him on their bench - at least he would have been if he didn't manage four separate injury layoffs last season - and he reportedly seems happy to sit on the bench and collect his paycheque

Lyon Raid Watch (a different one, I mean...)
L'Equipe are reporting that we're looking to bring in Florian Maurice, aka Lyon's chief scout - and there might be something to this, as he's been there since 2009 but is now getting marginalised by new DoF Juninho Pernambucano
