Really, how come?
Because a majority of MPs, quite a sizeable majority, voted Remain. The ERG ****ed up not backing May’s deal when they had the chance, that was their best shot. But even if all leave supporting MPs wanted exactly the same thing they couldn’t have forced it through.

Root of the whole fiasco, Parliament was not in line with the referendum result.

Do we know the numbers regarding mps leave remain?

We will never know Bob, but I am certain in my mind that remain MPs would find some way to block any intention of leaving. Democracy in this country has been broken.....
In my opinion, democracy has been broken since I was old enough to understand the meaning of the word. Why people get their knickers in a twist about it now baffles me

Well, as you have said, if the ERG had backed May's deal, we'd be out by now. Alternatively, if May had gone for a permanent Customs Union, she would have got Labour support and we'd be out in that scenario too.

This is the way it works mate. There is a democratic system which is ignored. Like how the British choose their Prime Minister

I think you’ll find that we don’t actually vote for a prime minister, we vote for a political party who have a leader who becomes the “PRIME “ Minister.

With hindsight, maybe it would of been a good idea to say that in a referendum as important as this, then voting should of been compulsory for everyone of voting age. Doesn’t Australia do the same thing ?

Yeah they do. And if you live overseas and are still an Aussie citizen I believe you have to vote too. I don't agree with it to be honest. Sure, people gave their lives for our right to vote but they also gave their lives for us to say "actually I cannot be arsed".

But then those who cannot be arsed should have a box that says ‘cannot be arsed’.....would save us all going through the current ****pit we find ourselves in at the moment.....at least the ‘winners’ could say it was a true majority.

Can I ask how this democratic EU council election works ??
How many candidates are there for each position that the MEPs can vote for ?
For example, how many candidates are there for President of the European Commission ? So far I’ve only found one.
Was chatting about this with the Mrs as we walked the dog. We got more and more incensed, all these commissioners, presidents of the commission, presidents of the council of ministers, head of the ECB are simply placed in the jobs, no competition, all grace and favour, don’t even have to make a case for themselves. And we end up with people like Juncker. I hope the EU Parliament kicks them all out and causes a crisis.

Mind you it’s exactly how ministers are appointed here.

Yeah it's a fair point but I dunno if I like the idea of forcing people to vote. For me it goes against the spirit of it. Personally I do vote even if I spoil my paper but get why people don't.

I think that some wanted a no deal, some wanted a soft brexit and some wanted a hard deal. If they all wanted one of those 3 then we would be out. Simples

Remind me, Bob... Of the 16,141,241 voters than opted for Remain, exactly how many in time voted that way because they were in favour of: (a) remaining exactly as we are for ever, (b) adopting the Euro, (c) accepting greater EU expansion with perhaps the inclusion of Turkey, Albania. Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, (d) moving towards a European central army, (e) moving to a more economic or regional division of territory within the EU, thereby diminishing the role or identity of nation states, (f) moving to ever-greater political union, (g) implementing greater control over hats?

Me neither.

I thought we had this one sorted mate. Not voting is the most politically valid and honest thing to do if you want genuine change. The current **** pit is a brilliant demonstration of the farce of parliamentary democracy.
