Stoke to finish 6th, the Supercomputer must be run by a Stoke fan. Last season it had them to win it. I reckon we will be higher than 12th, and Uddersfield, Sheff Weds, Brentford and Florist
Cheers for the input Supcon - I must say I'm inclined to think you wont finish mid table as well - where we differ is which end you'll be battling in.
I can't see you lot over there (including Lansdown) being satisfied with another "nothing to play for" last dozen games. I reckon Johnson will either get it right this season and be genuine top 6, even with an eye on an auo spot, or blow it altogether with some Christmas tinkering because you're not achieving.
The difference between mid table comfort zone and botton 6 scrambling can be down to fine margins of judgement. If you're down there round and about, the trap door is never far away in the Championship.
In the Prem last season we were always destined to be a table propping club but that's the nature of the beast. You could predict the bottom 6 a few games into the season, and so it turned out. The only question was which 3 of the 6 would drop and who would scramble clear. Huddersfield, Fulham and us choked, whilst Brighton, Southampton and Burnley scrambled free.
This season in the Championsip there are favourites to finish top 6 and bottom 6 - but I bet it doesn't finish that way. As far as the Jacks are concerned, I very much doubt they'll finish above you whatever.
I’m not at all convinced your lot will be a top 6 side either. Many cocky sides (and their fans) have come back down after a single season in the Prem, thinking their the dogs bollox only to find the Championship harder than they thought!
The huge difference is our squad virtually all are battle hardened Championship players.
Not really, still plenty of ex-Prem clubs on parachute payments that haven’t found a way back yet, but I see your point, the 3 that went up were bigger and better-supported clubs than the 3 that came down, so from that perspective it could appear weaker.
I actually thought that Liverpool & Man City aside, last seasons Premier League was the weakest and poorest quality I can remember in a long time

OS, I have said many times over the years on our forum, that I hate the PL and what it has done to English football. Of course we all crave the spotlight of the Premier League, but in reality, unless you spend heaps, and get lucky, the 1 or 2 seasons are not an enjoyable ride. I'm quite happy flirting with the chance of going up, over the actual reality.
Last season, could not have been a fun experience for your fans, surely?
I agree with the sentiment, but if you don't desire promotion, what is the point?
Either that, or most of the arguments on your (our) board(s) are pointless. Why worry whether LJ is doing a good job or arguing over who you buy and sell? Those arguments are all about winning the league. Your board is going to be pretty boring if you're all of the opinion that you don't want promotion. It just becomes a cash generator for Landsdown. Develop players, sell them at a healthy profit, don't re-invest (as you don't want promotion), stay mid table / just outside the playoffs, repeat.
Maybe we should aspire to win the league but turn down promotion if you / we achieve it.
Being whipping boys isn't fun, but as sparkey said, at least we've been there recently (twice).
We were disappointed to be relegated and if correct officials' decisions had been made at home to Chelsea and away at Burnley chances are we could have stayed up at Brighton's expense.
Some on here were critical of Warnock's safety first tactics when a more adventurous approach at Fulham and Huddersfield, plus others, might have brought us greater rewards.
Nevertheless, compared to our previous Prem experience this was a much more positive journey where management, players and fans were all together and this will flow through into the new season to make us better than last time around.
I would like us to get back to the Prem again and if we do we will be in a much stronger position.
The clubs finances are in a much healthier position due to careful management and the owner's conversion of loans to equity.
The Championship has a lot more competition and even fun than the Prem but I prefer to see fixtures against the 2 Mancs, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelski, Liverpool et al rather than Boro, Blackburn, Preston, Birmingham, Hull, Millwall etc on the basis that I like to see some of the best footballers in the world rather than day to day journeyman.
Not everyone will agree with me but if you don't strive to compete at the top level then what is the point?

No probs Supcon - I must say I tend to agree with you about what the Prem stands for and what the financial implications of success or failure can be. You're dead right about the enjoyment levels (lack of) for us lot last season. It's great to watch such talented players from the elite clubs playing at your stadium, but I for one don't like to see my side get stuffed most weeks. The journey there is far more enjoyable than being there.
It wasn't pretty and in all honesty we didn't help ourseves to some extent tactically. The difficuty in playing against some of the class up there is massive, but there enough beatable clubs to take points off and ensure survival - and let's face it, for clubs like ours that's the initial objective.
Really looking forward to this season in the Championship, but however bizarre it seems, will be routing again for promotion to that unforgiving land we've just left - we're funny buggers aren't we?
