I feel Boris has set himself up to be smeared such is his arrogance. If at the end of the day, Hunt emerges as the new leader, then the smearing will have proved a point, and Johnson can then enjoy a far more rewarding career in show business, broadcasting and writing.
And do you also feel that Bojo's girlfriend gave up any rights to privacy because she has poor taste in men?

If she chooses to live with the devil so be it? The target is Johnson and we have to hope the smearing results he comes second in the Tory leadership election by fair means or foul, or help to end his Premiership as soon as possible.

For the greater good eh? Time I stopped following this thread, I don't think I've got the correct amount of righteous indignation combined with tabloid mentality

Johnson is himself the author of the tabloid mentality that so puts you off. After all he was the creator of the "straight bananas story." Furthermore, he will do his utmost to stop Corbyn becoming PM by spreading "muck."

Whatever. I manage not to slide to position of lowest common denominator just because I object to someone, and I've never been a fan of "but he did it first Miss"

Story doing the rounds that if Boris wins the vote, Labour will launch a “no confidence” bid the very next day, with rumours that several Tory MPs will support it rather than have Boris bring about his threatened no deal Brexit.
Wouldn’t it be great if Boris only served as PM for one day.

Nobody asked him to put his name forward, however when he opted to enter the race to become the PM, he laid himself open to all sorts of mud-slinging bearing in mind the skeletons in his cupboard. Besides, which it won´t matter one iota when Hunt is elected leader on 22 July.

They will have very little time to do it as Parliament goes on its holidays soon afterwards, and then there are the party conferences at which the said Tory leader needs to set out his visión for the future.

It would be bloody fantastic if he never got to serve at all.

****ing hell RJ, I haven’t smeared Boris. You’ve interpreted that as such.
Fats, I was replying to Ides. I can't abide Boris, I think he's despicable but I've always hated muck throwing of any kind and I get annoyed when it is somehow justifiable because the moral "we" don't like the target.
As far as tabloid mentality goes, that's how I think of sensationalist headlines and the idea that something like the details of a private Bojo barny is somehow in the public interest

I appreciate that some people feel they should know all the personal details purtaining to an argument that took place between Boris and his girlfriend in a private residence. I on the other hand think that a: it's not important and b: none of my goddamn business.
The neighbours have an axe to grind, have history with Bojo and partner and IMHO have done this with malicious intent, and I very much doubt that this domestic incident merited a police call out in the first place, let alone some kind of public washing of dirty laundry.
I'm no fan of Boris, I think he's an unprincipled oaf, but the current smear campaign strikes me as petty and puerile. I'd be ashamed to publicly pretend that I actually cared about what a couple were arguing about, regardless of who a couple were.

From what I’ve seen and heard it was a little more than “just an argument”, plus there appear to have been a number of people who heard it and were concerned. Let me just say, if my daughter was heard screaming “get off me!” and “get out of my house” by neighbours, I would thoroughly endorse their right to call the police and would be round there to thank them for doing it.
The fact that we have a racist, lying, misogynistic bully with the ability to twist certain parts of the media to his way of thinking and who is backed by an openly racist fascist (Steve Bannon) about to waltz into the top political job in this country makes me even more determined to move out. If I could only persuade my daughter and granddaughter to do the same ........

On the other hand....

For goodness sake folks.......it does sound to me the whole thing is being exaggerated somewhat........We can hear neighbours almost on a daily basis shouting and hollering at each other. Even crashing and banging as they are arguing. Even the words let go of me...........Why would we ring the police...........Sorry you'll never convince me it wasn't a set up to earn a few bob from the papers. How many of us have a recorder to hand to listen to a neighbours rowing?? Nah total rubbish

You're conveniently forgetting one thing Beddy. None of our neighbours are making a play to become the country's Prime Minister. The position requires the highest standards of behaviour, as an example to the nation, or so that used to be the case. So, 'we can hear neighbours on a daily basis' gets nowhere near cutting it.

Really even though he is a remainer?

He's not. Here's a summary of his Brexit policy from the BBC

Jeremy Hunt
Foreign Secretary

  • Would leave the EU with no deal, but it's not his preferred option.
  • Wants changes to the Irish backstop and proposes sending a new negotiating team to Brussels.
  • Wants to make changes to the Withdrawal Agreement and thinks it's possible to get them done by 31 October, but has not ruled out an extension.

My understanding was he with others were canvassing for the remain side prior to the referendum. As far as I know he has not changed his mind.
I understand he would prefer an agreement.......rather than leave with no deal.
