The traditional far left is the one which we have actually experienced, which creates massive centralised bureaucracies, rather than Marx’s speculative end game. How many members of Momentum have read Das Kapital?
Mussolini said many contradictory things (I remember a discussion with Goldie on here where I posted a lot of racist stuff from Mussolini) but I don’t think it can be disputed that he was an authoritarian nationalist. Here’s what he said about the Serbs
“When dealing with such a race as Slavic - inferior and barbarian - we must not pursue the carrot, but the stick policy.... We should not be afraid of new victims.... The Italian border should run across the Brenner Pass, Monte Nevoso and the Dinaric Alps.... I would say we can easily sacrifice 500,000 barbaric Slavs for 50,000 Italians....”

— Benito Mussolini, speech held in Pula, 20 September 1920

The other thing the far right and left have in common is a love of uniforms. And marching.
I can counter the quote by Mussolini by one which is even more horrible:
''The next World War will result in the disappearance from the face of the Earth not only of reactionary classes and dynasties, but also of reactionary peoples. And that, too, is progress'' This sounds like one of the ravings from Mein Kampf, but is, in fact, from Friedrich Engels. It is abundantly clear from the writings of Marx and Engels that races or nations which were not capable of creating a Proletarian consciousness would be cast on the dung heap of history. All of this stuff about 'workers of the World unite' should be seen in the context that, at the time of writing, only Anglo Saxon countries actually had an industrial proletariat - all others were seen as 'reactionary'. Lenin had to re write whole sections of Marx because of the anti Russian content there. There was nothing inherently internationalist, or multi culturalist, about Socialism until after World War 2, when the left had to distance itself from the National Socialist programme of the Nazis - a programme which was, initially, a socialist one, but became less so with time.

Our Rory, the people's fantasist, has been knocked out of the leadership race. This shows the far-right Tories have given up on reality. Unlike Labour, who will nationalise everything at no cost, and everyone will get a free owl.

It's a tall order these days, what with the constant no-deal fearmongering, but today's Bullshit of the Day Award goes to Labour MP @RupaHuq for her claims a clean break from Brussels will lead to an outbreak of scurvy across Great Britain. Congratulations, Rupa!

Yep.
Do you reckon some of Boris's supporters voted for Hunt to block Gove?

Can't see the members voting for Hunt over Boris.

Yes, I do definitely think so. Boris didn't need the votes and did not want to face Gove for the last 2. There's also an element of revenge, if not for Boris, then for some of his supporters. We may never know, being a secret ballot.

I think Boris is home and dry unless he does something really stupid. Hunt is simply Theresa May without the lipstick and leopard print shoes

*313 votes, 1 spoiled ballot.* Boris: 160 Hunt: 77 Gove: 75

I put £20 on Hunt to be the next PM just over a year ago at 18/1. Time to cash out I think. Decent profit. Might give it a week as Boris hardly likely to shorten further at 1/50 as I've seen him quoted in some places, and Hunt could come in further still.

Don't be surprised if another sleaze story comes out of the woodwork as I'll bet certain newspapers often sit on a story for maximum impact...

Surely the character of the man likely to PM deserves to be fully examined, which it won’t be in a Tory leadership contest. Johnson, when asked in an interview about what his beliefs and convictions are replied with a joke about a speeding ticket and refused to go any further. He needs to be confronted about his lies which have led to two sackings, his chaotic private life, his record in public office, his contradictory statements, his ill thought out insults to individuals, nations and cultures etc.Things which in most jobs wouldn’t be relevant are for this one. And the Tories will be better off having these interrogations now, because the opposition parties will show him no mercy at all, quite rightly.

Unless they think he’s like Trump and can get away with anything, all the bollocks is already factored in. Personally I don’t think he has anything like the Teflon appeal of Trump, who is at least consistently outrageous and hideous, and judging by his performance in the debate he is not trying to be the disrupter, the British Trump or Salvini.

How many kids have you got Boris?

Should I be bothered by how many kids he has? May be the kids or their mothers don't want me to know.
