Banned accounts

You may notice that some of our posters were banned last night, it’s not because they’ve done anything wrong, it’s because their accounts have been hacked and had to be blocked to prevent any damage being done while others had access to their accounts and were posting on other boards.

It’s not just our board, posters on the Southampton and Newcastle boards have also been hacked, site owner Mick is working on it and we hope to have all posters reinstated as soon as the issue is resolved.

All those hacked have had weak passwords and it’s probably worth reviewing this if you also have a password that’s potentially easy to guess.

I wondered what had happened.
Any more info on the nature of the hacking and potential impact on my systems data ?
 
Hi All,

I had to shut the site down in the early hours to protect it, so some people will think they are banned when they are not.

Apologies for not giving updates but it's the only way I can stay a step of the hacker - I have to just do stuff without explanation. At a later date we will try and repair the damage, and currently it can be repaired but will take time - hacked accounts have been banned.

However, in the meantime accounts are still at risk. Sorry but have to be honest with you about the situation.

If you can reply it means I haven't identified your account as having been hacked. I've just checked your account personally and naturally can not start doing this for everyone as it would take days, but your account currently has not been hacked.

In the tense it is being done in, nothing. It just becomes a competition for them, that they are better at gaining access than my ability to protect you. As simple and as straightforward as that really. I believe this is just being done for kicks and nothing more sinister, they clearly have a lot of time on their hands, even if they can decrypt in 10 seconds, they spent hours waging internet wars with me until the early hours when I shut the place down. Pretty sad really but at least they feel a winner.

Speaking as an affected user you'd definitely know if you'd been hacked. Your log in would change and you'd be unable to access your account. You'd then watch from afar as your avatar picture changed and you started posting in General Chat until 'the real you' complained and had your account suspended.

As I've said in my PM to OLM, who is being really helpful, my password was 'weak', but it wasn't one you would just guess so I'd say the hackers are reasonably high tech.

It's a bit **** really

Any chance of sending me a PM with what your old password was, so I can gauge their level of tech. I think it is more a security breach than weakness of password now, so no problem if your old password contains personal detail and you don't want to reveal it to me.
