http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-must-smash-black-managers-glass-ceiling.html I would be behind this but it shouldn't have to be implemented and shouldn't it be implemented by law anyway? Although I don't get this: 'Certain chairmen in the Football League have admitted privately to their concerns of how their club’s fans would react to the installation of a black manager, although the consensus is that supporters are becoming more tolerant.' I would hope that fans wouldn't think twice about a manager because of race and 99/100 people wouldn't tolerate racism as it is. I think people would love to see Dion Dublin manage Norwich and if they were to question this it would only be about his ability and not to do with race. On a side not I've discovered how to change the title of the thread but it appears that there is a very brief period in which you can - maybe just when you look at the list before refreshing it after creating the thread. Double click between the thread title and the little logo next to it.
Only concern I would have is the slippery slope principle. What follows - demands that a certain percentage of appointments have to be female? Also, how would this work in practice? Who decides which position has to be filled by who? These things have a habit of getting out of control - after all Health and Safety rules and Human Rights legislation started off with good intentions but look what it has led to!! Keep racism out of decisions by all means but enforced quotas - I need convincing.
If you have enforced quotas - and if, because of that, you have to employ someone BECAUSE they are black, yellow, red etc. ahead of a more deserving white candidate, how is that not racist???
I think it ends at the interview stage. Instead of picking between 5 white candidates, you're then choosing from 3 white candidates and 2 black. It is then up to the club to choose the best. They are still given the freedom to choose the best. It just gives the black candidates the opportunity to be interviewed where maybe they wouldn't have had a chance before. With this Rooney rule, it basically says to people you CAN do, this you CAN do that. However Health and Safety laws say you CAN'T do this, you CAN'T do that. It also restricts things with a big fat no. The Rooney rule is a gentle push. They don't have to mploy the black candidate if they don't think he's up to the job.
I agree, there are no Indian managers so surely the World is not divided into Black and White.... Our last 2 National managers are from Italy and Sweden and only a handful of Prem managers are English... The reason Glasgow has so many managers in the prem is because they deliver the goods, not because we love the Scottish....
