Oh, I totally agree with this approach. I've been advocating a scorched-earth summer for a good two years now. But our wage bill had gotten genuinely bloated, which was alarming given how few legitimately good players we had.
We will soon see if Saints **** it up because Ralph will be gone. So hopefully they stay to their word

Yeah, I really hope they do. This is the epitome of a put-up-or-shut-up moment: we need to do this in any instance, because the squad has withered on the vine, but we also have to do it because we aren't getting another Ralph.

It's almost as if someone at the club was taking a cut on each player that we signed....<whistle>

We already have 2 good keepers. Gunn and McCarthy have both proven to be PL quality.

Question is, could we sell McCarthy for more than the new lad costs. If so then it would be good business, lets hope we dont end up with 4 keepers on pretty high wages mind.

I’ve made the assumption that Alex seems on his way.

I watched the game he played for Empoli on the last game of the season. The guy did about 8 world class saves. Guy saved 17 in total

That's great, though I will reserve judgement until I have seen him play. I just hope that he is not written off after an early mistake like at Fiorentina!

Perhaps it is not McCarthy that is going to be sold, but Gunn for doublé the price he was bought. Possible suitors … our Anfield and WHL friends, Manchester United, Arsenal, Wolves? Arsenal need either a second or first choice keeper, depending on how Emery views Leno.

Any players worth taking in part-ex from that club? One of their backup strikers for starters, and Wellbeck, perhaps.

We will have an interesting conundrum, which is great for Ralph, but not great for the individual keepers. Obviously at least one of Fraser and Alex will be sold, maybe both, but even then, Bart and Angus will both clearly expect to be first choice.

Gunn is not going to leave man city, spend 3 months as out number 1, and then go back to a big club to sit on their bench .

Then we will have two very good young keepers pushing each other.

Can only be good.

I think it’s great. Let’s not forget Gunn is still young and may have blips. If Alex wants more games guaranteed then he needs to buy a washing machine move on.

I’m not sure why some fans are worried or questioning this. It’s a possible shift around of the Keeper situation that will Keep good competition. All good in my eyes. I’m sure it’ll end up with two keepers fighting for first team spot and either Fraser gone, or lingering in the back ground if we cant find a taker. Same as this last season.

If nothing changes, then that’s ok too. (If no one takes Fraser, we have to take a hit unless Ralph thinks he is good enough to challenge).

I suppose it’s part and parcel of a keeper’s life, after all they chose a position there’s only ever one of on the pitch, so you’re always waiting your chance. No doubt Ralph has had comforting words with Angus about his error that gifted Huddersfield their equaliser, but he won’t be allowed many more like that.

At City, Liverpool and Tottenham he would be on the bench. United have to solve the conundrum re De Gea. At Arsenal, Gunn would have plenty of game time in the EL and other cup games and might even prove to be the number one.

You genuinely wouldn't mind starting next season with Gunn, McCarthy, Forster and Dragowski?

Well... he's played 16 matches since he left Poland. Goalkeepers are far less easy to judge. It's quite a lot of money. And this is nowhere near a priority.

Maybe he was good in Poland and someone at Saints can see all that underneath. But does he actually fit the type of player we want, enough to make it worth upgrading the youngest first team GK in the PL? None of us know, and even if you watched every minute of Empoli you still won't, because they were crap.
