Bloody appalling isn't it? The gross misunderstanding of the EU that Leavers have will take this country down if they get their way. And I always thought the UK succeeded despite the efforts of politicians.

Labour needs them Scottish votes(unless they get into bed with the SNP) and the best hope is remain.
Doubt any serious leave voters would buy into the old reform from within argument. The EU has been swirling like a black hole for the last forty years.

It’s because people in England keep voting Tory. Whereas the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are dominated by the SNP or Labour.

Because unemployment has fallen, it’s harder to recruit into skilled occupations. The fact that many EU citizens have left because of Brexit means we have to look outside the EU. We used to recruit many nurses, doctors, architects, plumbers, etc. from EU countries but the end of freedom of movement will mean we can’t do that anymore. Yet another consequence of leaving which was blindingly obvious but 17.4 million people ignored it. Who do you suggest I blame?

I agree there are shortages in some skills no doubt...........as there has been way before Brexit.......Remember though there was never any doubt that if people had a skill we needed then as long as they had a job offer there was/is no problem. The main Problem as far as I see it is the governments lack of planning and letting the people that are here know they would not just be booted back. That promise was not made until much later but by then the damage was done. Nothing to do with the voters!!!

Everything to do with voters. If they had taken the trouble to inform themselves, rather than believing total guff, the initial referendum vote may well have been quite different.

So how do you suggest we get out of the hole caused by leaving?

We'll invite people of colour to come from the Commonwealth on boats to fill our work places that the British don't want or can't fill, and then decades later tell them they have no place in their adopted land.

invest the famous £350m per week in training people <laugh>

We could try upskilling our own population anyway, regardless of whether Brexit actually happens or not. Bringing back Nursing Bursaries would be a good start.

Gee wiz Chilcs if I had that answer I would be a millionaire............There shouldn't have been a hole as you put it........I don't believe I'm a racist I don't have a problem with open borders or foreigners. I just want us to rule ourselves. (I am not going to go into all that again)
The biggest problem we have are those in parliament. Nobody was expecting a leave vote!!!! So as usual no preparations for the unexpected. Did you know when you voted there would be this big a problem??......... No neither did any of us.........Probably because nearly everyone thought the remain would win.
Now had the boot been on the other foot....do you honestly think the out voters would have left it there??? We still could have been just as much in the ****........In truth I would rather we were still in the EU rather than drag the country down as we are doing.........Had I known about this **** was going to happen I probably would not have voted at all. Despite my reasons.......(which you are aware of and I appreciate your discretion) Please don't tell me you thought there would be a problem like this.

The Tory hard line immigration attitudes since that woman May was home secretary has a good deal to do with EU and non EU skilled workers leaving or not considering UK an option. Plenty of verifiable info here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Office_under_Theresa_May . Public hostility to "foreigners" working in the UK also reported to have risen, plenty of evidence for that.
