Interesting never knew this before if correct from 'Express'. A handy sum then.....

'Each League One club reportedly receives £677,000 per season, regardless of what position they finish in.

The teams also receive a £645,000 ‘solidarity payment’ from the Premier League, according to vitalfootball.co.uk'

Not quite the £170 million you get for winning the Championship play-off....basically for coming the third promoted team.....for one game not the whole season.

John Cleese has started an argument by stating that London isn't an English city anymore......I could have told him that 20 years ago....in early 2019 there was an article stating that fact....posting a figure of roughly 45% English.

And as someone else has replied, it never was, from the Normans, the Jews the Normans brought with them, the Hugenots, bringing with them the secrets of silk weaving, Indians brought in by the East India Company, Jews again escaping persecution in Russia and then Germany and West Indians brought in after WW2 to address labour shortages.

    So what?

I was thinking............. My nephew's first attempts at plotting the family tree revealed that I have 2 children living in Coventry. This came as news to me as 3 nights spent in a hotel near Coventry with my then wife and a detour around the A45 once when the M6 was closed are my only experiences in and around that fine city. It's difficult to imagine I fathered two children on those occasions without noticing and indeed without the mother noticing, although perhaps that says something about my romantic abilities and is a bit less fantastical. Therefore what follows needs to be taken with a liberal helping of salt.

However, his further inquiries suggested that, based on the family name, my family may in fact be of Norman descent. I suppose the Normans were the first real immigrants since they came when there was some semblance of an English nation, which didn't exist when previous invaders waded up the beach.

The other interpretation, based on geographic distribution, is that we're Celtic. That means that we pre-date the Romans, the Angles, the Saxons, the Jutes, the Vikings and the Normans.

THAT MEANS BEFORE ALL OF YOU LOT.

We were quite happy making things out of iron, living in our roundhouses and periodically slapping on the woad and having pitched battles with neighbouring tribes or even on very special occasions with the Picts. Then in you came with your Pax Romana and your aqueducts and your sanitation and your roads. And then your fancy stone castles and cathedrals. And that French cooking, well! That Boudica, she knew how to manage her borders. Off home the lot of you I say.

A welsh cousin on my fathers side of the family tried to do a family tree......he gave up when he got back to about 1880.

He found out that great grandfather married a woman with the same surname (well known name in Wales....bit like Smith in England)....and she came from a place that was often spelt in many different ways and often called by a different name completely by whoever was living there at the time.....you could find old maps with different spellings and names as well.....they often got known as... so and so... from a place that was unpronounceable to an English reader.....so a person could be known by where they lived...which to other people could be known by a completely different place name.

In the end he couldn't be sure which surname was from the paternal or maternal side of the family....and with different place names for the same place it became rather frustrating....our grandparents had 12 children and the farm couldn't support them all when they grew up...so off they go all over the place...RAF...Army, Navy, Merchant Navy, Lifeboatman, farm workers etc....this cousin wasn't even sure where these aunts and uncles ended up in the 1920/30's.....I might look into my mothers side of the family...they've been in the Plymouth area for many years....might be easier.

My family used to have a cave on Dartmoor before it was even known as Dartmoor and the rock hole in the cliff was known as a cave.So that predates even you notdistant you bleddy foreign git. If you don't believe me have a look at the cave pictures and tell me they don't look just like me. My wife still calls me a Neanderthal to this day.

Saw a bit of news on Sky sports news today which I'm surprised doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere else. Apparently Joey Barton was involved in a fight on a beach in Newquay last night whilst there for his stag night. Fleetwood say they are aware of the situation and D & C Police are also aware. If true then surely this one isn't going to go down too well with the FA given the reported fracas in the tunnel previously. What ever happened with that? Seemed to die a death.

At least Joey Barton isn't shy of going further south west than Plymouth....not like some managers.

Joey Barton involved in a fight? Is that really news?

Goodness me the BBC have found time in their morning bulletin for the new series of Love Island. We could have had more of that. Why waste time on yet another Joey Barton punch-up when there's serious stuff to report?

I see President Trump has endorsed Boris Johnson as our new PM. He thinks Boris is intelligent and from Trump's perspective I suppose it's true. However, I'm just searching for a "Kiss of Death" emoji.

Interesting little factoid. Championship clubs enjoyed combined income of £749m in 2017/18.

Of this, £243m, yes one third, was made up of Premier League parachute payments to a record 8 ex PL clubs in the division.
