Regarding the Mills v Bamba debate, I'm more inclined to believe their inability to play as a unit is more down to Bamba than Mills. Mills was excellent for Reading last season and is easily one of the best defenders in this league. But his partner, 'Bombscare' Bamba, showed towards the back end of last season that he is a liability. Anyone who saw his diabolical defending in the last 10 minutes against Southampton where he tried to dribble past two oncoming strikers would have seen there and then what his problem is; he thinks he's a fancy pants who can play like a winger. He can't, that's why he's a CB. It's a bit like working on a building site with a colleague who thinks he can make music with a chainsaw - dangerous. Mills needs a steady eddie type defender, like a Tunchev or SSL (who seems to have been banished from all LCFC eternity cos of one mistake, despite the fact Bamba makes several per game), and not a ticking timebomb who one day will cost us dearly.

My team would be:

Kasper

Peltier-Mills-SSL-Konch

Fernandes-Wellens-King-Danns

Beckford-Vassell

Subs: Pantsil, Bamba, Dyer, Howard, Gallagher

The are for concern for me is the ease that the crosses come in from the wings? Pantsil for me tends to run too much backwards when wingers run at him. I would like Pelts back in and get our defenders to defend first and foremost before legging it down the pitch leaving our centre halfs exposed. we also have to defend from the front and Vassell and Beckford will chase defenders down.

Well look at it this way. Ever since we signed Bamba we have leaked goals on around 2 a game which is too high. Mills was solid for Reading so he cant be a bad defender.

conceding goals isn't always down to a bad defence/player. if we start chopping and changing too much then we won't be able to get any sort of consistency

Thinking outside the box a bit, what do people think about trying a 3-5-2, with attacking wing-backs? Think it might just have the right balance, and be the formation that allows us to pick our best players in the right positions. Something like this:

Yes! Someone else who thinks we should play 3-5-2. I would swap Danns for King though, although it would be a close call. King goes missing for too long in the game for me!

I like that formation but have a problem deciding on Kingy or Danns??? no Kingy for me, Danns needs to earn the right to take Kingy out the side for me.

Beckford up front on his own? If you play like that I'm afraid your quest for goals will continue. Jermaine needs to play alongside a big target man (e.g. Becchio) to score goals regularly.

If he had wingers putting chances for him on a plate and we didn't just hoof it up for him he would score goals.

We aren't getting any wingers though so it's a moot point, we've got to hope Sven see sense and plays 2 up front.

I think he will go 2 up front when Nugent is fit

Now we lost Gally for a few weeks but the good news is we have Danns and King who can play in that position aswell
