In our case we have access to their financial situation as they'd be our tenants and if they are struggling they'd likely be working with our financial advisors and welfare benefit officers who we have contact them if they start getting behind on rent and are likely the ones to give them the food vouchers we use.

Lost interest after the first sentence, no faith in the current system and those that work in it. The MEP results will be spun and manipulated with both sides calling themselves the winner. The whole country is the loser.

IT is funny. The South East is the most populated region in the Eu elections. it gets 10 MEPs because of this yet it is also the 2nd most supportive of the BrexitParty. Must be terrible living down there with the amount of ill informed uneducated yobbo racists stormtropping around the streets.

Oh and the article is quite funny too.

My daughter (Sam King - remember that name!) bless her cotton socks, has been out canvassing with the Labour candidate for Gloucester. She's actually doing something, not rattling bollocks on the internet. Hasn't been "shaked" but probably has enough door slams to put together a good percussion album

Grayling is a prime example of the incompetence, look what's happened now.

Chris Grayling throws milkshake at himself – and misses.

    Whoops missed the earlier post.

"South East Region - 10 MEPs
Comprises: Isle of Wight, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire"

Seems it is your region that is the hotbed of UKIP (former) with Farage, Diane James and another that is still a kipper..........plus you have Dan Hannan.

That seems reasonable I am not sure what restrictions should have been there. My granddaughter by the way still spoke to them on the quiet I believe. They gave her back most of what was taken. She is taking it back tomorrow morning I gather...Bless her

When Jamie Oliver`s Italian closed in Aberdeen 2 or 3 years ago, he blamed the Scottish referendum, as I recall. Now the rest have gone bust, he`s blaming ` market conditions`. I wonder if it`s crossed his mind that the real reason is that the food was $hit ?

I'm not really saying there should be restrictions or not on public foodbanks, i don't know a lot about those myself. but another thing i will say is a lot of these people won't always have been poverty, they might even work, or had worked recently and could have afforded a car. The majority of our residents in social housing work. But that doesn't stop them getting into a spiral of debt or getting sanctioned for some bullshit reason and running out of food. Fuel would be more questionable to me.

They've improved on this now but there were lots of people who weren't getting any money at all for 6 weeks while their benefits were switched over to universal credit. during the trials we had 4x more arrears on average with those on the universal credit trials. God knows why they didn't sort something out then rather than waiting so long after the rollout to start addressing some of these issues.

So your point is twats live everywhere? Or that the more people there are in an area the more chance of a twat?

Think so, though it feels like it should be classed as the South West with Dorset in my mind.

Probably because those at the top of the house running the show are grossly incompetent. If I did my job the way the government have done theirs, I`d have been sacked long ago. It`ll be interesting to see how the Tories and Labour do in the polls tomorrow - how anyone could vote for them given how they`ve showed up over Brexit in the last 2 or 3 years is beyond me.

I will vote tomorrow as I always do.
It feels like a citizen duty, and of course gives me an excuse to moan about the result, weather, kids these days and the price of beer.
I have little idea who I'll vote for.

Much of the scorn and insults directed at leave inclined bods like me* ignores the factor these European elections always highlight. Their relative unimportance as the Euro Parliament seems about as much use as an Adam Lallana stepover, all show.

This was the primary reason I was inclined to vote leave, sick of the gravy train the likes of the odious Farage had slurped from for years while in effect acting as a fig leaf for those in real (often appointed) power.

*Before the predictable accusations of racist/nazi/puppykiller it may save me that, after talking to my twin 17yr daughters who missed a vote by a few months I offered my vote to them and voted to stay. Strangely this itself has attracted venom from both sides, can't win really.

More proof that our beloved incumbant government heaped totally unnecessary austerity onto UK citizens:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48354692

This is what I mean by 'long memory'. Never let these people back in. If another government trips up over hard times, never let Tories or right-wing parties back in with their promises of tax cuts. It's a total illusion. Findings like this should convince even the dullest individual that right-wing government is only catering to a small section of society, which gets smaller and smaller as hardship grows, leaving a great swathe to exist on the smallest of welfare help. And there are groups who are quite ready to make this even smaller as an 'incentive' to get out of poverty. The reality is that the present path this PM seems hell bent on sending us down, because for one brief moment in time a tiny majority of the voting public wanted it, will hasten the removal of jobs anyway.
