Just to add a twist to the discussion.

When I was working for the LA l tried hard to get BME folk to apply for certain positions. It was really difficult and the reason was confidence. Many just thought they wouldn't get it due to skin colour.

I could see why some would think that tbh. Mainly as it was a mainly white LA. But it wasn't necessarily racism that lead to that from the white majority. Imo it was a mindset from the BME folk.

Just to add that some folk did see a BME getting a job as "must be because he is BME" although it was whispers rather than overt.

I know many an educated folk from BME backgrounds who don't utilise their education in the job market. Many going into self employment

How this mindset got created I don't know in today's world. I'm sure it may have been a thing once.

but no one is suggesting that just that they get the opportunity to be interviewed .

The context I was using the term 'promoting', was promoting somebody to the interview stage rather than to the job itself. I think the suggestion was that there should be a Black or Ethnic minority candidate on the interview list simply to increase representation. I disagree with this as it's another form of discrimination. I do think that black and ethnic minority managers are under represented in the game, but as I mentioned, I think the issue has more to do with the culture amongst wealthy white men and the choices they make within their own circles.

Power Spurs will use any excuse to say that the only answer he can come to is Racism. He's done it on the politics thread too.

Bless him.
Rubbish. I actually look for the reasons why it isn't racism.
The problem is that most people find the statistics too hard. People on here are comparing the proportion of the UK population who are black with the proportion of football managers who are black. But the neither the footballers nor the football managers are predominately drawn from the UK population. So it is the WRONG comparison.
A simpler example is nursing and sexism. Just over half of senior nurse managers are men. That isn't surprising based on the UK population. But nearly 90% of junior nurses are female. So male nurses are much more likely to be promoted to senior manager than female ones. Is that sexism or something else?

No black managers

Hardly any white English managers also<laugh>

Really this argument is pathetic.. It's null and void.

The leagues are full of foreign managers, the fact they are not black is the weakest argument ever.

Just as nobody should be denied a job by dint of the colour of their skin, nobody is entitled to a job purely by dint of the colour of their skin either.

Nothing much more to say on the subject.

No. The most likely explanation is that girls are better behaved than boys so learn better.
If there is a similar explanation for fewer black managers then feel free to post it. And don't say fewer applications because that is bound to be the case if there is known discrimination

The method of teaching was changed when they found the earlier one favoured the way boys learn.

The % of the UK that is black is irrelevant as that isn't the pool of qualified candidates. And I agree that individual cases prove nothing. But racism is the only explanation that I can see that explains the data.

What percentage of the managers are foreign and go home when they retire from playing?

Given global demographics, why haven't we got more Chinese footballers?

The data must prove that racism is the only answer.

Nobody on here really knows the reasons behind why there aren't more black managers, but the fact is there is a proportional disparity.

As someone posted earlier, look at the applications and compare success rates for whites against success rates for blacks.

One thing though, is the naivety of someone saying Club owners and CEOs wouldn't discriminate against blacks because they're only interested in money. It's not the case they're all necessarily sitting there saying to themselves "oh no, keep those blacks out of here!" Such a low-level understanding of racism ffs. Ironically it could very well be the case they are afraid of risking their money and future revenue by hiring against the grain and instead going for what they perceive to be the "safe option". The vast majority of tried and tested proven managers are white, so why risk going with a black one? Not how I think but I can see that being one contributing factor. It's still discrimination but not your typical burning crosses on the lawn type ffs.

Tbh the way i see it is that typically clubs will hire safe managers or at most, the higher to status clubs (higher being lower premier league and championship where they sack the manager) will give it to one of their coaches who may or may not do a good job.

Why arent any black footballers becoming coaches first? Who knows.

With respect to big names getting big jobs straight away without building up, at most i can think of will be club legends going to stabilise a club.

Im not buying racism yet. I just reckon most probably perceive theres racism and dont bother reapplying or want to start at the top
