Unfortunately you are right in saying that the people do not own nationalized industry - if they did have the feeling of ownership then privatization would not have been possible. The mistake was in believing that nationalization was an end in itself - nationalization should be seen as a prelude to full communalization or transformation into workers cooperative forms where possible. Of course parliamentary democracy is not the only true form of democracy - in fact we are not supposed to ask questions about what democracy is because the powers that be know that the best way of stopping somebody fighting for something is to convince them that they have it already. The mistake is in thinking that democracy is a product and not a never ending process. You cannot describe a country as a democracy if all people do is vote between limited options once every 4 years - or if democratic principles only operate in the political sphere and not at the workplace, in schools and in all areas of human activity. Democracy and private ownership of the means of production are incompatible with each other.

 

If I were Mr Farage then, in the event of a GE before a Brexit, I’d simply campaign on a platform of delivering Brexit, but with a pledge to then stand down and call another GE within (say) 6 months. That’d make the electorate think.

 

Well, here we are again.

For the first time ever, I am not voting for the main party I usually vote for but for a remain party.

If Farage really does beat them all, and especially if he beats the Lib Dems and Change UK combined, then that's good enough as a second referendum in my view and in that scenario it would be clear to me that we need to leave.

In that scenario I hope those of you who are so confident that all will be well are right!

 

I think you have to factor Greens into the Remain vote too.

 

I guess it's a crude and inaccurate measure at best but might give some vague notion of which way folk are leaning.

It's now 17 Remain votes to 15 Leave, so, given that this board has already proved to be representative of the nation's views, the government is duty bound to hold a confirmatory referendum. Actually, they needn't bother - just take our word for it, revoke Article 50 and let's all get on with our lives.

Not how it works me thinks, If a bird who only liked a solid 10”+ in length offered a shag to anybody who could provide said member and I rocked up with my modest 7.5” and with a mate who hung a decent 6.5”,
I don’t somehow think said shag would happen as it is based on a combined 14” and not on a single persons contribution so to speak

 

EU elections are run on proportional representation lines. If remain supporting parties get as many votes as leave supporting parties they will get as many seats.

Though as Johnson and Farage exhibit classic ‘small dick syndrome’ behaviour your analogy might have some traction.

Of course in a first past the post system like we have for Parliament you can win with an extremely tiny member, much less than average size. Although Farage must be freakishly small as no matter how often he’s tried he’s ended up a laughing stock.

 

But I read that in this particular version of proportional representation a vote beneath about 10% in a region wont get a Representative, so if the Remain vote is split into a greater number of different political parties than the Leave vote as Polls suggest, the number of Representatives could well be less than the total % would indicate.

 

An awful lot of straw grasping from remainers on here in light of the Brexit party's popularity.

 

Seems Farage has a lot more 'Momentum' than even the Labour Party now...

 

I'll say this for Farage. He's obviously very bright but he has incredibly thick skin too.

He never seems to get ruffled but gives people enough needle for them to get themselves very ruffled. I guess it is his court room adversarial skills he puts to good use.

Only history, near and distant future, will judge whether he is hero or villain in this process.

Although I'm a strong remainer, I do occasionally find my self nodding in agreement with some of what he says. Nevertheless, I think he is mostly villain!

The Labour opposition party lost the unloseable election, having been in opposition for two elections.

A return to a government that had not long ago, brought the country back into surplus was a just result for business and Australians all round.

The last thing we needed was a bleeding heart Labour government that wanted to increase foreign aid and throw dollars every which way they could.

Common sense prevailed.
