It made no difference to whether people worked or not but there was a general improvement in health and well being.
Didnt it cost more to implement than benefits as they got a proper living amount?

It wasn’t a particularly well designed programme. They got a fairly basic amount but were still able to apply for other benefits to top that up. It was not a full living amount.Didnt it cost more to implement than benefits as they got a proper living amount?
Rather than have it lost over many threads. This topic intrigues me but im not sure it would ever work in a capitalist society / real world.
It would be interesting to find out what it really means.
Off the top of my head i know the benefits is meant to be
less beauracracy and admin costs
Valuing of jobs that currently serve society but unpaid like mothers, social care etc
Allows people to retrain and have periods off work
Generally make the population happy
Ways to pay for this is through more taxation
Offsetting costs for means testing
There is no personal allowance so the government get higher tax receipts
So does this really work and from what i was looking at figures wise it does not although i have been told otherwise.
@Looney Leftie @PowerSpurs over to you

Will UBI brought about by automation and ai be a good thing really !?It made no difference to whether people worked or not but there was a general improvement in health and well being.
It is more a method of dealing with it I think. We probably don't need everyone to work 40 hours a week but people are forced to by poverty while others can't get work. Will UBI brought about by automation and ai be a good thing really !?

Can you name any success stories from Communist governments?Capitalism
Greed is good.
Mire everyone with extortionate debt whilst the banks are bailed out by the taxpayers.
Same taxpayers end up in extended period of austerity leading to rising costs of living and large sections in poverty scrounging out of food banks.
Massive bonuses and protection to the the CEOs who got the country into the mess.
Blame the EU and foreigners for everything.
Definitely. But we've got a Cabinet Minister shooting it down for made up reasons so not much chance if a debate about the facts.Much more info needed

Chinese v Indian growth is an interesting one. I suspect that China under communism has had more growth than any other country. Not that growth should be the only factor. Can you name any success stories from Communist governments?

It wasn't me it was Saxton.Cant remember the article you shared although i remember disagreeing with the headline.
Saying that though i do think the Labour mini ubi (what Scotland is going) is totally unviable if you are still going to need housing benefit, tax credits etc. Its effectively just another benefit created
There was a little blip a few years ago where millions starved to death ,but China is doing quite well now since they emulated the Wests financial model .Chinese v Indian growth is an interesting one. It's looking more and more like a socialism idea. Tax the successful, hard working workers and make them pay for the lazy unsuccessful bastards.
It's pure bullshit.
I don't subscribe to communism.
Define 'capitalist success' and then we can look at comparables with socialism.
I'm sure everyone wll appreciate another politics thread![]()

If Labour get in with Jezza lots of very wealthy people will leave .Some people won’t be happy until everybody is in the gutter mate.
The entire concept of natural selection is responsible for billions of years of evolution and then all of a sudden, in a flash, some people think it’s not fair.
