That's got something to do with rampant inflation caused by teams with mega-rich owners prepared to pay anything to get what they want. If you don't pay you just can't keep up. It started about 15 or 16 years ago - can't remember who with atm......
Nice dig. Way to go off point I was explaining why they seem like superstar buys because relative to the money spent, those are superstar prices you are paying (even if you didnt consider vvd and alisson as world class superstars before hand)
As for the mega rich owner thing, of course that has contributed to inflated transfer fees but i think the main driver for all this is actually the inflated tv money and sponsorship deals that all clubs are getting.
I think the fact we had to pay world record fees for both suggests otherwise. You don't have to be playing for a top team with trophies coming out your eyeballs to be a superstar already.
I get what you're saying but Virgil was the stand out player at saints. We're just making him realise even more of his potential.
Liverpool force Real Madrid to change plans for Eden Hazard transfer deal with Chelsea LIVERPOOL have inadvertently forced Real Madrid to change their plans to announce the signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea, according to reports. https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1127357/Liverpool-Real-Madrid-Chelsea-Eden-Hazard-Premier-League-transfer-news How much money Liverpool will lose if Barcelona sell Philippe Coutinho Liverpool won't receive bonuses if Barcelona part company with Coutinho in the summer transfer window https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/how-much-money-liverpool-lose-16039833 Trabzonspor’s young goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is being tracked by Liverpool, according to the player’s agent Erdi Kirkpinar. The 23 year old goalkeeper, who has been in impressive form this season, has caught the attention of European clubs and Kirkpinar has told Ajansspor that Liverpool have contacted him: “Every team have scouts and some of them are following Ugurcan’s matches. Schalke haven’t made an official offer for him. “I know Lille and Schalke are following him. Liverpool are also interested in him. Liverpool officials have talked with us, we had some contacts, but no official offer has come from them.” Jurgen Klopp could be looking to bring in a back-up goalkeeper to Alisson if Simon Mignolet leaves the Premier League club during the summer transfer window. http://sportwitness.co.uk/agent-confirms-liverpool-talks-client-no-offer-reds-yet-bundesliga-competition/
For a striker. Maybe midfielder. You broke world record transfers for alisson and vvd (before us with kepa) in their respective positions! If that isnt superstar money i don't know what is!
Fair points. I’ll adjust my stance accordingly. The success of both players has made the fees paid look like bargains and have recalibrated what superstar money is for their respective positions.
It all adds up. But.... the super rich have created the need for ffp. People spending 500mil just cos they can and then going roubd sacking manager after manager etc etc The tv certsinly has hugely inflated fees and created monster agents who are very very dodgy. Mendes is extremely dodgy. What's happening at wolves smells rank. It's so under the table one hand paying the other stuff.
We spent barcelonas money.... the fee is basically fair comment, it's big money for big quality. But we cannot forget where the money came from. This season we spent 127mil net. That's our record ever after being negative prior 2 years. If you assume we had potential for about 40mil net spend each year and we accumulated another say... 36mil... well... that says to ebliverppol can afford approx 40mil transfers yearly based on income. When city can decide to spend 200mil based on thin air and fake sponsorships it makes a mockery of everyone else's efforts to grow real revenue
Cue the rags trying to unsettle us before the CL final with fake stories of all our main players leaving.
