https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...nd-questions-full-time-celebrations-1-9764017 Gareth Evans says Portsmouth intend to 'batter' Sunderland at Fratton Park on Thursday night. The Black Cats will take a narrow 1-0 lead into the second leg after Chris Maguire's superb winning goal on Saturday night. Jack Ross' side even survived playing a quarter of the game with ten men after Alim Ozturk was shown a controversial red card for a challenge on Evans. Portsmouth struggled to test Jon McLaughlin but Evans insisted that they are the better side, and took aim at Sunderland's full-time celebrations. "It's still very much in the balance," Evans said. "There wasn't much in it. "There was a little bit of quality from them for their goal. "They've got the goal, but it's only half-time and we said in the dressing room that we were 1-0 down half-time at Wembley. "We went on to batter them in the second half - and that's fully what we intend to do on Thursday. "There's still 90 minutes to play and it's not like the tie was over. "At the end of the game they were celebrating like they'd won three or four nil," he added. "It's up to them how they celebrate. We just need to be as professional as we can and do the business on Thursday. --------------------------------- Went on to batter them? Didn;t we have 70% possession in the second half until the red card? ****ing hell!! Stick this up in the dressing room Jack. Should get our players motivated
He is joking, there was a slight celebration, i hope we take the game to them on Thurs i know Catts will, they lost to Peterborough with a full team, so we should be confident and we do need to be defensive, but when you think in 46 games that 3-1 down there was the worst, so you would say it won't happen twice. I would leave Adrian out, he should not have been playing the last month or so, we can beat Charlton as well with a full team plus Watmore hopefully. And only Coventry has battered us this season. Also that is twice we have had a player sent off against them whats the betting it happens again ?
What I noticed after Ozturk was sent off was that it didn't look like they had an extra man . . . . they had some possession and put pressure on, like most teams would if they were getting beat towards the end of a match, but they certainly didn't 'batter' us Mind games in the third division, eh . . . . who'd have thought it
There nuts, think there way better then they are. Can’t remember our keeper having a save to make? And before the red card we looked like we where Gona get at least one more goal.
Never heard of him. He's irrelevant in the football world. Nobody cares what he says with that big mouth.
I'm happy for us to do our talking on the pitch He talks about the need for Portsmouth to be professional when he is giving an unprofessional press conference. Come to think of it ^^^^^^, yeah, who is he?
Alim Ozturk is free to face Portsmouth on Thursday night after the FA withdrew his suspension with immediate effect. The Sunderland defender was controversially shown a straight red card in the 67th minute of the first leg for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. An FA spokesperson said: "Alim Öztürk’s suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect after a claim of wrongful dismissal was upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission today. "The Sunderland AFC defender was sent off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity in the first leg of the EFL League One Play-off Semi-final against Portsmouth on Saturday."
Good news and pleased to have him back tbh., gives us options. Bad decisions all round on the night, but its gone now, the sad thing was that Ozzy and the Ref. were doing OK until that incident, not a big fan, but he is as good as we have got, not great, but decent enough, especially with Flanagan alongside. I think the most important man on the night will be the Ref, who I hope he is up to their tricks, if they sense he is easily conned, its going to be tough old game, our aim must be to keep cool, and not make it easy for them, do this, and we can look forward to a play off final, against Charlton.
Forgive me if I am wrong but reading this "At the end of the game they were celebrating like they'd won three or four nil," he added." Reminds me of Portsmouth doing a lap of honour when they won at fratton park 3 - 1 against 10 men ffs
