I was thinking about Ajax Amsterdam earlier today. I have watched all of both their games against FC Bayern, virtually all of their two away games against Real Madrid and Juventus plus a great deal of their home matches against the same opponents. They have lost two of these games (home to FCB and home to RM) however over each 90+ minutes Ajax have been the better team creating more chances than their opposition. Why would anyone with a mild knowledge of European football not think they had/have a great chance of reaching the final. It may just be that, if it is to be Barcelona, they will be beaten by a better team who play a similar type of football; plus of course MESSI!
With the missus' family all Liverpool supporting Welsh folk I bow to the great man Lionel Messi. After the 6 Nations that was a potential double I could really do without. I quite like my trips to Anglesey and I would have had to give it a miss for at least 5 years.
Sorry, late posting this 'cos I forget to 'click' it before going for doc's appointment! Yes, it's true, I have but a mild knowledge of football in general, mainly because once a game is over I usually forget about it and do not dwell on the result, not that important to me. However, Kenny, I thought you said earlier that you quite fancied Liverpool?
I certainly did fancy Liverpool; not based on their victory over my team but on past European performances. I judged (incorrectly) that they would trouble the Barcelona defence AND take at least one of the clear cut chances made. I suppose I compared Barcelona against their fabulous earlier teams and did not give their current squad enough credit; in the end and, on reflection, Liverpool can consider themselves not to be FIVE behind. I also forgot (?) about a gentleman who, from close on thirty five metres out, can place a ball as if he was virtually standing on the line then stand on his tippy-toes and throw the ball through the angle between the post and the crossbar. My main failing on personal football commentary and opinion is that I dwell on decisions by officials, missed chances and memories from the recent and distant past!
Sebastian Vettel: Ferrari driver says "Mercedes' success is boring." Geh, Vettel, stop moaning and get a grip on yourself. For a talented driver like yourself things might have been a lot different for Ferrari, had you not made so many silly errors in F1 races over the past 4-years? Get with it, and start doing something really worthwhile for your employer; they pay you enough, surely?
I'll bet he didn't think racing was boring when he won 4 world titles in a row while driving for Red Bull.
After being banned from 400-800m races due to her high levels of testosterone, Caster Semenya stepped out for probably the last 800m event of her career at Doha.
****in ell! Did Lionel Blair turn out out for Barca this evening? Never trust a scouser. Nice to see that odious little twat Suarez getting some though.
Well done Liverpool; didnae give them much of a chance however they did not let up for the 90+ minutes.
Indeed, well done Liverpool, achieved the almost impossible it would seem. Since I obviously know zilch about sport, especially football, I think I'd better keep off this thread in future. Back to Ladies Beach Ball...………… Now, it's your turn Tottingham, surely not?
Liverpool were better in bioh legs even when they got beat 3-0 they missed 3 very good chances. As for last night, too fast, too strong, too intense. Messi said they could not cope with it. A Spurs final will be 50-50 but the Reds will ha e far too much for Ajax who are Barca light really.
Hindsight? Disagree on Ajax, this young team cannot be dismissed lightly. Liverpool can put in the occasional dismal display too, like any other team.
As much as I'm not a great fan of Liverpool (based on them winning everything when I was a kid) there's a Man U fan on Talksport right now proving beyond all reasonable doubt that United have the biggest bell ends amongst their legion.
