Just rewatched the first 10 minutes, Sky won't let you download it direct to the box but its OnDemand and the picture and sound quality is much improved. Will know what to do now next week. Pretty bad for the future of Sky if their live transmissions are much worse quality than streaming services!

It felt like two episodes put together as one.

The trailer for next week is interesting.

Euron is in the boat when he hears a dragon’s cry but he looks really surprised/alarmed with what he sees.

Theories include dragon armour or more than one dragon.

    It's ridiculously paced atm.
It's like Winterfell and Kings Landing are 2 villages within walking distance.

And like Cersei wouldn't take that opportunity in the end :D
Dani shows up with some sort of mini squad on her side to talk.
Fock me, just destroy her there and then, fire what you have? Could probably have taken out the dragon chilling in the backgrond as well

Product placement is very common in TV programmes. Does Winterfell even have a Starbucks though?

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered a herbal tea,” HBO stated in a press release issued to Variety.

The Starbucks cup is nowhere near as bad as the time there was a pickup truck in the background of a scene last season.

    Major dilemma:

After the Mountain killed Missandei, I really want Greyworm to **** him up.

The problem is, I also want Cleganebowl with every fibre of my being.

the pickup truck wasn't on the show -- it scene came from one of the making of / behind the scenes clips.

I have feared for the last couple of weeks that Cleganebowl will be in response to the Mountain offing Arya. Although now that it’s written by scriptwriters who seem far more reluctant to kill off the main characters than Martin was it might be that Arya kills the Mountain post his Cleganebowl victory

The character killing is a problem, because in earlier seasons they had time to introduce new characters to fill the void, or promote existing ones (such as Ned being replaced by Robb, and then Robb being replaced by Jon) - now they have no time to do that.

Looking back in hindsight, I'm glad more of them survived at Winterfell because the whole remaining show would just be between 3 or 4 characters, which I would find boring as the 'secondary' characters are, in my opinion, the best characters.

Trying to work out both Cleganebowl and Cersei's demise is really tricky at the moment as we have several characters now converging on those particular plot points - Greyworm and Sandor on Cleganebowl, and Arya and Jaime (alongside Jon and Dany) on Cersei.

I think Cleganebowl might come about in some form of trial by combat in the very last episode. Not sure how, but I still feel that's the best way to do it.

Arya being killed by the Mountain would be out of nowhere and imo off-tone for me, but GoT seems to be going for more surprises this season. I hope they don't do that though, Arya should either die killing Cersei or not at all (and I don't want her to kill Cersei, she's already offed the NK, letting her kill Cersei seems like overkill. Killing Cersei should fall to Jaime).

I think we're gonna get a bunch of deaths next episode. A lot of the deaths we expected at Winterfell may well happen at King's Landing.

In saying that, I've noticed hardly any major characters have died in battle episodes prior to Winterfell:
    • Blackwater - literally nobody of importance died. Tyrion got a scar, that was it.
    • Battle of Castle Black - Ygritte died, that was pretty big, but in terms of the whole series her death means nothing, even Jon seems to have forgotten her (which annoys me because she's way better than Dany).
    • Hardhome - that one character who was introduced to us in that same episode died. As awesome an episode as it was (still my fave ep), again, nobody died.
    • Battle of the Bastards - all the major characters survived the battle. Rickon was ****ing useless, so his death was kinda meaningless. Ramsey was always losing that battle in some way, so his death was inevitable.
    • Field of Fire 2.0 - The only characters with any storyline in that battle to die were the Tarlys, and they didn't die until the following episode.
    • That stupid wight heist - Thoros was kinda important through his association with Beric, but he wasn't needed going forward. THIS was the episode were several of them should've died, even moreso than Winterfell.

Now looking back, the Battle of Winterfell should've closed last season. That most recent episode should've been over two episodes, and in an earlier season it would've been.

If they were still doing 10 episode seasons, it would've been the finale episode - and one hell of a cliffhanger to end it on.

Alternatively, end season 7 with the cliffhanger of the battle about to start, just after Jon tells Dany who he really is, and then open this season with the battle.

This season should've been about the battle against Cersei, instead of trying to fit both the Long Night and the battle with Cersei into a six episode season. They should never have shortened the seasons, as the pacing has been completely thrown off.
