But if you don't pay a transfer fee it balances out. He's been a key character for us, and a great signing.
Not necessarily. Players on a free often receive an increased signing on fee. For example, Joe Cole was widely reported to have had a 5million signing on fee paid when he came to us - this was paid out over the duration of his contract. That said, Milner's 'fee' would be substantially less than any transfer cost and I would argue that he's been a brilliant addition to the team either way.
I would say he has been one of if not the most consistent player in your team for the last few years (not the best, but most consistent).
Agreed. Def justified his wages unlike joe ****ing cole grrr!!! Still think gary mac was best freebie we ever got
Its weird because he has been consistent but then went through spell of being consistently poor. Playing a season at lb he saved us really as he put in 7/10 performances every week with no hassle. Last year, he was brilliant in the CL, top assists and again was just a solid midfielder in prem. beginning of this year he started brilliantly but then really tailed off until about 10 games ago where picked up again. Thing with milner is, he’s just a all round solid midfielder. He’s not gonna sit in front of back 4 and win ball back, he’s not gonna provide that defence splitting pass and little clever play, but if you play him with players that can do that then he’s the perfect midfielder to compliment them.
Liverpool are prepared to make Lille an offer for the £60million-rated attacker, while Manchester United are also said to have joined the Liverpool are reportedly set to hand a new contract extension to returning midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. According to the Daily Mirror, the England international is set to earn himself a new deal keeping him at Anfield until 2023 just after his successful return from a lengthy injury.
Former Southampton captain Francis Benali has indicated that he would be open to seeing Adam Lallana return to St Mary’s - in quotes reported by the Daily Star - but he is not sure if the fans will share his viewpoint. Like Benali, Lallana is a former Saints skipper and something of a modern day legend, given that he rose through the ranks before inspiring the club from the third tier to the Premier League in the space of just two years. But the England international walked out to join Liverpool in the summer of 2014 for a deal worth £20 million, according to the BBC. His fifth season at Anfield could well be his last, however, with Lallana making just five Premier League starts this season under Jurgen Klopp.
Virgil van Dijk will be considered the greatest Liverpool defender ever if he maintains his form for the remainder of his Anfield career, says Mark Lawrenson. The £75million man has sustained a remarkable level of consistency since becoming the most expensive centre-back in world football in January 2018 and saw his imperious displays rewarded with the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.
UPDATE: De Ligt to Liverpool backed Liverpool should sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and partner him alongside Virgil van Dijk, Mario Melchiot claims. “My boys at Ajax are of course going to try and hold onto him for as long as they can,” Melchiot told talkSPORT. “But they know they’re coming into a difficult situation with De Ligt. I like him as a player, he’s very smart. “He went through a very difficult spell when he first broke through because he made a couple of mistakes for the national team so the country was jumping on his back. “But I think that shifted his mindset and made him an even better player. “Now, the way he’s playing right now, I think if Liverpool were smart they’ll go after him. “De Ligt and Van Dijk, those two together would be a great partnership.”

jesus wept... that certinaly never happened. they just won the CL semi final. advising their captain on where to go publicly is not on his agenda.
after trying several times to make fake stories about becoming our coach? I seem to recall he was in the press loads and loads before we hired klopp.
Ajax will do well to hold that team together. Gonna be some big teams coming in for a good few of their players. Young exciting players who have got them to a CL semi final and potentially final... Probably be worse then went Saints has that good run and their squad got torn apart within 2 seasons, or same with Monaco when Mendy, silva, mbappe, Fabinho as well as couple others I think got picked up over 2 years
