Tv at work

    I mm thinking of putting a tv in my customer waiting area, do I just need a tv licence or do I need a licence from ppl or is that just radio

    On the first page, near the top:

    When you need a TV Licence

    Your business address needs to be covered by a licence if staff, customers or visitors watch or record live TV programmes on any channel, or download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer. This applies to any device provided by your business.


    It seems quite unambiguous to be fair. You just need a license for the address.

    Your customers don't need one. This is inferred by:

    You may also need a license if they use their own devices not plugged into the mains, and are not covered by a licence at their home address.

    So you couldn’t have the tv showing a news channel, but channel Dave would be ok?

    Edit, or any channel of your choice that only shows repeats

    Thats how it reads. Live shows. The issue is proving it though.

    Dave is still live TV.
    I don’t think it just means TV which is being broadcast live. It’s anything that you can turn on a TV and watch then it’s live.

    Seems to suggest if you only watched non BBC ‘catch up’ tv you wouldn’t need one though?

    Yeah I assumed a licence was needed, it was just something additional as it’s broadcasting to the public

    It’s not just a tv licence you might need - look at MPLC as well, which is a bloody protection racket

    However, you don't need a licence if you use All4, ITV Hub, UKTV Play, Netflix or whatever to broadcast shows on your TV. Hell, get Now TV and stream Game of Thrones all day. Though as Skidby says, you may get scuppered by the MPLC as it seems they cover all audiovisual content.
