theres on year on rashfords contract left. nobody will offer 100mil.

Its up to him to run it down. I wonder if his agents name is aidy ward <laugh>

He's a young Manchester lad, he'll sign again

Agreed. Sounds like he's after more money rather than CL qualification. He knows he has the chance to become a local legend, doubt he'll go.

From his point of view he's seeing people like Sanchez earning up to 500k a week and doing **** all. He wants a slice of that and you can hardly blame him, Utd done ****ed up bad with wages.

Yup and this is why can’t conplain about lfc not caving in to demands regarding wages / release fee etc as all it does is mean that other new recruits or current squad members say well X is earning Y and I’m playing more / doing better so why aren’t you offering me the same

He's the highest paid bench earner this season; he and Ozil are on £5k per minute but Ozil's played more

Not do bad if they've earned it. Can't see too many complaining if VVD got a bumper pay day for example. You could chuck Salah, Mane and Robbo into that mix too

On principle I'm not keen on there being too much disparity amongst players' wages - I don't think it helps morale. I can see that there is an argument that it spurs players on, but I think the team ethic is more valuable in the long run.
Of course peripheral players will have to accept being on less, and younger ones breaking in should expect to have to work their way through the pay-scale - but otherwise the accepted first team should have a level of parity, imo. Even though there are obviously some stand-out individuals it's still a team game, and they still need the rest to help them achieve their high standard.

I agree with this.

One thing I am in favour of is a player negotiating an incentivised contract. Firmino was on one and he was racking up the goals and assists. I think he renewed his contract late last season and I'm not sure whether or not it included incentives but is he slightly down on numbers compared to last season?

Doesn't this lead to selfishness though? Unless of course the same amount is paid for goals and assists.
I just see it as a team game, and that everyone involved should share in the rewards. Anyone not pulling their weight loses their place ultimately anyway.

A share of the rewards would be the fairest and best motivator, with the a greater share for those in the first team. To use Sturridge as an example, he lost his place by not pulling his weight but has no real incentive to get back in the side because he earns a lot more than some of his colleagues for doing far, far less.

You can judge the 'selfishness' aspect by Firmino's play. Would you say he is a selfish player? Maybe he wants an incentivised contract because he knows his own style of play. It motivates him while at the same time rewards him and the team benefits hugely.
