SSN are reporting that both VDV, and his rather inaptly named physio, Van Toorn, say that he is fit, and ready to go against L'pool. Or, maybe even against Salonika on thurs.

Well, I'd rather have him on the left than Niko. If that was the only change for the 'pool game, I'd be OK with that. I was rather hoping, though, that he might be out long enough for us to establish some sort of form and shape to the team. Can't see any point him playing in Greece. And, by the way, if he's available for Salonika, how come he isn't registered in our 25-man Europa squad?

I think Harry thought that he'd be out for quite a few weeks, so didn't bother registering him.
I'd rather have him fit for league games than cup games.

I agree, mate. What I meant was, can you trust an article that suggests he might be fit for a game he's not eligible for? Not great journalism, is it?

  6. I'm extremely worried that when VDV comes back, Harry is going to revert slavishly to a 4-4-1-1 system, with VDV playing directly behind Adebayor. I much rather that we used that as an option than continue to propound it as our mainstay formation. I think we're going to get better results in going for our traditional 4-4-2, with both Defoe and Ade up front.

Also, why would we want to put VDV on the left when we have Bale, Pinaar and Rose who can all play that role far better?

Its becoming a worry that we have a world class player like Rafa and to accommodate him we have to change the way we play.
Surely Harry can shape the team so that our style is not compromised but fits him in or is that impossible.
However saying that we know that Harry isn't a tactical genius.

PNP - that's an out of date page. Try this: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/season=2012/clubs/club=1652/index.html

You are right not to trust that website implicitly, though. Both could be wrong, but I think VDV won't play in Europa again until Jan at least.

The page I linked to has been updated more recently that the one that you've linked to, CN.

I think that you're right and that both are wrong, though.

Which raises the question; if he truly is World Class, should he not be able to adapt to the system, rather than the other way round?

He doesn't really get a chance to adapt to the system though, NSIS.
Redknapp hasn't given him a run in the side in any role other than the one which he favours.

Could he do a good job from the right wing or in central midfield?
We've not been given the opportunity to find out.

Yesterday we more or less played a 4411 formation with Defoe playing slightly behind Ade,so we shouldn´t really have a problem with VDV playing just behind Ade,except for his lack of pace compared to Defoe.

Is he on that horse placenta thing???

Hay, if it gets him over the next hurdle!, good news he won't be out furlong. If he is ready for Pool, just aswell we're at home, would want him being strangely drawn toward Aintree!
