Yep, I'm going to slag Fox off too. I lost count of the number of times he drifted inside ball watching leaving acres of space on the left. Something for the gaffer and the coaching staff to work on for sure. And what was going on with Cork at right back, FFS? Hooiveld looked solid though and Fonte was Fonte so not all bad.
I'm sure the manager and coaching staff will get the new guys to fit into our system. I remember after Cork's first game Nigel remarked he didn't track back enough and they'd work on it. The defence was forced on NA by injuries..he said he didn't want players to be out for 3 weeks because he elected to play them in this game as it would be a hard season. Bearing that in mind, this was an especially valuable three points.
at the end of the day we beat forest 3-2 they had the likes of mattderbyshire who has played in the prem miller who has played in the prem a bit i think? but has done well in champ john grenning who has played in prem andy ried who has played in the prem camp who plays in goal at international level even thou it is northen ireland so good result and fox played alright for first start. oh yeah and steven mc claren as gaffer who i don't rate but hye has been england manager (not a very good one thou
The strange thing is that I'm sure if we had a middling start I'd be on here praising the team and saying we'd have a good season, but I think being at the top of the table has unsettled me and made me fear losing even more. Nowt as queer as folk!
I've been thinking the exact same thing. I knew he'd get criticism, because of the amount of space which Gunter kept on getting over on their right-side. Amazingly though, Gunter isn't a right-winger - he's a right-back. So not Fox's man to mark. Stopping him would be the job of our left-midfielder. Now who is that again?...... Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at Lallana here. I accept that his defensive game is poor and he doesn't help out his left-back as much as other wide players (as much as I dislike Harding, I have ALWAYS said that the one thing in Harding's defence is that he isn't helped by Lallana). So if other people are with me on this, and also refuse to criticise Lallana, then they cannot criticise Fox. Majewski, who seemed to be their midfielder furthest to their right, was constantly coming in field - so of course Fox was narrow. We'd have been over-run in the centre of defence if Fox had stayed out wide. If anything Fox should be getting credit, because time and time again he blocked or cut-out Gunter's crosses (effectively saving Lallana's skin). I was very impressed with that. I will need to have a closer look at the highlights to see if he was at all at fault for their first goal though. I was too busy watching the ball to see who was/wasnt marking Derbyshire and/or keeping him onside.
I dont agree with this 100% but i think the criticsm Fox is getting is undeserved! All 4 of your defenders should maintain a game between of say 10 yards! when the ball is on the oppenents left wing, fox should tuck in to cover the defence.. if and when the ball is switched he should have enough time to get over to the right wing who is playing out wide. If you watched Fox for 5/10 minutes youd realise he is tucking in to cover the CB's which he did 3/4 times yesterday something that Harding doesnt do
That is the beauty of this Forum, we all have different ways of seeing the game, and differing views on the situation, long may it continue, and don't get too depressed when things go against us at times, and try not to pick on individuals, it may be good to get it off your chest but it isn't going to make a lot of difference in the long run, better if you posted positives, like "thank you Lambo for your hat trick".
Of course it's great to have all these differing views. It's what makes a forum interesting. We don't want everyone nodding in agreement, all the time. By the way, the reason why you won't find people on this thread writing thank you Lambo for you hat-trick is in the title.
