I was having a look at ferries today for a possible trip over later this month. Special Brexit arrangements are now in place. Seeing as no one has a clue what is happening I can get my money back if I choose not to travel. What a dreadful state this government has got us into when you do not know for certain what things will be like in only three weeks time. Still the PM is totally lost how she can keep the warring factions in her party apart, knows that if she takes the country out without a deal she will never be forgiven by some, yet according to other of her ministers she will wreck the party for a decade if she extends and we have EU elections. She has put country behind party, and now can please none of them.

Was very enjoyable and a lovely reminder of the need for a peace that crosses all national boundaries...

  7. Someone messed up our work sweepstakes the other day. I ended up with Boris Johnson to win the Grand National and Tiger Roll to be the next leader of the Conservative party <doh>

One has been successful, the other is one of the favourites.

This is all very revealing SH. It shows us the true 'character' of some elements of the British media, as well as, if true, dragging the image of Britain down to a record low in the World. It also doesn't tell us much about yourself if you believe such garbage is newsworthy. If Liam Fox did say this then it is absolutely disgusting and shames us in the eyes of the World. If not then the media is doing exactly the same.

  11. A throwaway comment made to a colleague and it gets overheard and published. Juvenile and not very tasteful but just shows the need for them to be very careful about what they say and where they say it...

A more sensible post. I'm sure everybody is capable of making insensitive comments in private. I'm also sure many European politicians have an opinion about the Macron boy's choice of wife. His parents were shocked when they discovered their 16-year old son was having an affair with his married teacher. They thought he was dating her daughter so subsequently removed him from the school at once.

We're not speaking about a juvenile schoolboy Dan, but about a Secretary of State. These people are not placed in public office on our behalf to be making 'throwaway comments' of this type - all this does is to further degrade the whole country in the World's eyes.

  14. I would hope that most people have more in their professional and private lives to worry about than someone's choice of partner though. It's a shame it makes a difference to anyone to be honest.

Why are you pursuing this theme SH. Macron's choice of partner is a completely private thing which has nothing to do with either you or with the press. Secretaries of State do not make gaffs of this kind, nor do they even think them prior to speaking.

Of course it is private but that does not stop comments, his liaison at a young age was certainly unusual verging on being distasteful. Can she be compared with Adam Johnson?

'Unusual verging on distasteful' interesting comment which I will, in turn, comment on. The only relationship which I regard as distastefull is that of a married couple who stay together even though they don't like each other any more - and this for the sake of appearances. Love is no respecter of age or appearance - if a 40 year old man is having it away with a 20 year old girl, then he becomes known as a bit of a 'jack the Lad', and there is often a lot of back slapping involved from his mates - why should it be different the other way around ? As far as I am concerned I do not care, as long as the relationship is legal and is based on mutual respect.

How does one offender end up with a 6 year sentence and another actions hardly challenged.?
