This part of the conversation arose because it was pointed out that the pro-Brexit demonstration outside Parliament on Friday included a platform hosted by the racist, far-right English Defence League. I know, and everyone knows, that not everyone who voted to leave is a racist. But neither can anyone deny that a large part of the Leave campaign was, and still is, racist in nature.

All of the talk on the politics programmes tonight is which party is backing which possible forms of Brexit that would not infuriate their membership and their donors rather than the welfare of the wider population. It is a sad state of affairs when this is put first, however very in keeping with modern day work philosophy.

Everything now rests on what happens between now and Wednesday. Somehow either May has to accept a confirmatory referendum and tack it on to her deal, or Ken Clarke has to do the same with the Customs Union motion. Either of those could get a majority. Otherwise the only option is a Confidence Motion followed by yet another vote on No Deal.
They are an utter shambles. Nick Boles crossed the floor tonight because of the unwillingness of the Tory Party to compromise. If they don’t watch out not even the DUP will be enough to keep them in power.
I’m in disbelief, really.
I hope they know something that we don’t about the merits of leaving with a no deal.
I am STILL yet see any evidence that Brexit will help the country though. If anything, most of the arguments put forward today exaggerate how difficult it will be for us to achieve good trade deals.
Anyone who thinks a No Deal Crash Brexit has any benefits whatsoever for the vast majority of the British and Northern Irish public has been duped by the far right English nationalists and those who will benefit from getting out of the EU before the Anti-Tax Avoidance measures come into effect. WTO really isn’t an option, and anyone who says it is is lying.
As for any sort of deal, the effects will be mitigated by having some sort of alignment to the EU on trade, but we won’t have a seat at the table to set terms like we have now.
We will ALL be worse off, of that there is no doubt.
That is what I firmly believe as well.
However, the fact that people honestly believe that leaving is a good idea makes me think I’m missing something.
How can so many serving MPs see it as a good thing, if its going to be as catastrophic as I fear?
There seems to be a massive number of Tory MPs clinging onto a no deal scenario. Are we really saying that they are all disaster capitalists?
I'm honestly not sure what the confirmatory referendum even achieves, unless they can somehow agree to what the way forward would be if the referendum voted against, and that seems like the largest stumbling block.
Remain would have to be one of the options.
Hmmm I know that mogg and Boris appear to be exactly that... but there are a LOT of MPs that refuse to budge from a no deal. Surely at least a few educated MPs have to know more than us about how it will pan out.

Yeah, that's the tricky part. I can see them agreeing to an up-or-down vote on the May deal, but a fully-fledged referendum on the three choices (May deal/remain/crash out) seems like a stretch for a group that seems petrified of agreeing to...well, anything.
I'd consider them the "Brexit means Brexit" caucus. They know (or at least think) that their constituents want Brexit, and being political cowards, they will consequently vote against anything that has a whiff of being not-Brexit (or at least less-Brexit), because there's more political safety in being against things than being pinned down as having supported anything that softens Brexit.
That isn't the problem. Remain is always going to be an option on it. Considering so many on here talk about voting without knowing what you are voting for then it should be pretty simple to see that many MPs (including many remainers and 2nd referendumers) are not voting for a 2nd referendum because no-one has stated what the questions would be.
Remain WILL be an option IF a 2nd referendum gets voted on. It is the other option not being determined that is holding other possible supporters back as well as some fear of support for "no deal" if it ends up being the "leave" option.
