Thank you for your advice. I will be joining with a mixture of nationalities at a delightful French restaurant tomorrow for a superb Sunday dinner. I am always happy to join with others who have a broad knowledge of the world, rather than a narrow view of life. I could suggest that you might find it comfortable in your local Spoons, but then your knowledge of decent French life is long forgotten.

It is a real shame that there are still people around, even if they are now in a minority, who can only point to something that happened years ago as a justification for what should happen today. How many times has a party gone into government on a manifesto that they find is not the right thing to do a year or two later, and abandon? Pragmatic politics is something that people can understand, even if they do not agree with a change in policy. To simply say that because something was thought to be right some time ago before all the problems were uncovered should be continued, despite it being bad for the country, is simplistic. Why are laws changed? Generally to take account of a new set of circumstances, something that SH argues should never happen.

 

You clearly know bugger all. A united Ireland is nowhere near the Dail's priorities.

 

Not simply advisory when the UK government announced beforehand it would implement the result. It became government policy which remains today.

A united Ireland remains the long term goal, obviously the eurocrats planned attack on the Irish corporation tax rates is most worrying for them.

 

For who? Sinn Fein obviously but not the others. You really do not know what you are talking about on this issue. There is no real appetite in Dublin for a united Ireland.
