Hoddle and Gascoigne are the only two Englishmen who came close, imo. Scholes, Lampard, Gerard, where all great players; but not in that class, not quite.

Yeah definitely. He got one of the biggest cheers when we paraded club legends after the final game at WHL. Wish I were alive in his day to have seen him play. He probably could’ve got us relegated as manager and still been adored.

Was always a sense of waiting for him to crash and burn when he managed us due to his complete inability to understand how to get the best from the players.

I could write an essay on how he screwed up as a manager an never took responsibility for his mistakes but was happy to throw anyone and everyone under the bus.

However, I watched him live from 1981 onwards. He was and still is the best player I have ever seen live. Was truly a great passer, could hit a shot with both feet, brilliant at volleys and glided across the pitch. Was a genius as a player.
