It’s awful, to think that someone goes out with a knife. I’m pretty local to Farra and one thing you hear is how much of a nice kid he was. Not one person has said he was nice but had it coming etc which can’t be said about what people have said about the 2 arrested. RIP young lad. Heard there is gonna be an applause at 18mins on Saturday.
Yes.. My son said he was a good lad.. I don't know the lads who have done it, but reading social media they seem to be wronguns..
Everywhere. ( anywhere could be classed social if you can go there - middle of a field if you’re out walking eg) . Needs to be sorted . The level of knife crime 5 years ago was regarded as horrific . 3 years ago it just became the norm . Now it’s increased further , and it’s my bet that in a years time the news will report of “ an increase of x% in knife use over 2018 figures . As you say , long mandatory sentences , get them off the streets and set a deterrent
There are places and there are people who use knives where it is perfectly acceptable to have them on your person, countryside, farmers. There will be occasions when it would be difficult to prove otherwise. However people who carry them on nights out, town centres, in gangs etc, they should be the people who should be focused on. There was a local lad who, when going on a night out, knew he was looking for a fight with a particular person, hoping to bump into him. The other guy did too and was hoping to bump into him. However this fella decided to carry with him a stanley knife blade and held it between his fingers of his clenched fist when the fight kicked off. Needless to say the other guys face was a life changing mess. These are the sort of folk who they should clamp down on with tougher sentences. He should have getting life, instead he'll be out in a few years. Just being caught carrying something like that in a place like the centre of town, he should get life. It would be a major deterrent for other idiots.
Yes , you’re right , it’ll always be difficult when such as farmers have a genuine need - but a youth who cannot show a need should expect retribution. Licence people who are genuine - ? No doubt controversial, but lots of ideas probably need consideration
A deterrent is kill them. Why should we pay taxes to keep people like that? The world doesnt need this type of person so lose them.
I have heard that the second person arrested was apprehended at Edinburgh Airport attempting to leave the country, but I have no firm confirmation of this as yet..
Sad reality is that our wonderful government won’t have the balls to introduce a mandatory sentence like that. Despite it being something that could go some way to winning them a general election! Spineless cowards. Some excuse about prison service under too much pressure and the like will be spouted. Applause was great today. Proper send off for the lad. 4 years older than my son. It’s scary as hell for anyone with kids these days.
Yes , politicians ,a justice minister and the usuals more likely to claim that its society’s fault and the offenders need our sympathy and help
