Because of how ultra slim Neweys Red Bull and also Merc have made their rear around the engine (split turbo helps them there), a lot of people are saying McLaren and the other midfield teams look a bit “fatter” round the edges.

Also- is this just a testing livery or is that how they’re gonna look this year?
That's either very very clever or they can't get much downforce from the rear so they are balancing it by having a low downforce front wing and gaining directing air around the tyre?
Plus they seem to have 3 holes in the nose, that's most of the frontal area of the nose being used to direct air elsewhere!
It's the first car we have seem that appears to be doing something different. I do hope they have come up with a concept that gives them an advantage and it's not just a front wing concept but a whole car.
I do hope we get some different ideas this year, but I am a bit surprised it's from Alfa/Sauber. I was expecting another Hass.
Then again Ferrari is revealing its 2019 car tomorrow, maybe that will be similar!!!!

That looks seriously complex. Looks like Merc style top wishbone but so much 'stuff' behind front wheels. Lots of slits in floor sides and front.There seems to be a lot more detail in the McLaren this year....

Are any of the other teams looking like this?
I know they messed up last year with wrong space between front wheels and side pods but this just seems too complex for a team that took the best part of 10 races to work out where they went wrong!!!!
Have they really brought in that much talent over the last 12 months or are they just throwing every concept they can think of at the same chassis?
They are being McLaren. Every so often it works. Most the time it doesn't
Given Alonso has now left McLaren finally has a chance to make a good car. It's how these things seem to work.
