other managers should not come out and say another manager should be sacked in the media, this is appauling behaviour and i hope FIFA investigate it.

this is like me sending an email to everyone at work suggesting a colleague should be sacked as he is underperforming in my opinion.

you are an absolute joker Lawrie

The main thing I remember about Worthy, and I do hope this isn't an omen, is seeing him during the match in a tracksuit with the bottoms tucked into his socks, prancing up and down the touchline!

Super, I would doubt very much that you would end up in court for PM'ing somebody information you believe to be true. Just use the word 'alledgedly' lots. :)

Iwan started 13 games for us during the promotion season and played 28 as a sub, that isn't many.

Doherty, was good for us - admittedly not as good as Mackay - but I feel he deserves to be slated.

As for the 6-0, that was one game. Worthington had been coping all season and had we won that game we would have stayed up which is more than good enough considering we had just got promoted the previous season. It was fully down to the players on that day, it was a blip considering we were so close and had managed up to that point. This is a manager that had got us convincingly promoted and we had just been on a 4 game winning streak that included Manchester United and Newcastle.

When you hire a manager things made not work in the short term but you've also got to look at the long term. Look Sir Alex, he was about to get sacked in 1985, I think, won a game and the rest is history.

A manager can't become bad over night, he did brilliantly to improve us, get us to the play-offs and get promoted. He was unlucky in the Premiership as we were one win away from safety. Had we won that game things could be so different.

I know that when he got sacked things weren't great but I would have liked to keep him.

But, he got sacked and we went through 3 awful managers, got relegated to League 1, hired Lambert and we are now Premier League. With all this in mind I wouldn't change a thing that has happened since Worthington got sacked.

But, please, if a 6-0 defeat relegates us on the final day of the season when a win would have kept us safe please don't say you want to sack Lambert...

so iwan featured in 41 matches then? quite a lot, even if they weren't all starts! i always find it interesting when people bring up the 'fergie factor'. he is most definitely the exception rather than the rule. wonky, you clearly seem to be one of those blind-faith worthy admirers who really got on my wick for about a year before he was sacked. keeping him would have ended in the same result as it did anyway - relegation to league one. i wasn't in the camp but some of the things i have heard from people who were would make you change your judgement immediately. he started well, got us in the play offs and promoted, but during that season in the top flight we were massively out of our depth because of the managers judgement. he never had the squad behind him that season, they lost respect for him and there was massive in-fighting and in the end the fulham debacle summed up the state of his regime at that stage unfortunately. to say fulham was a one-off is fine, but it wasn't. just cos we weren't beat 6 every week is no reason to dispute this. we put in so many abject performances before we signed ashton and many after too. i remember going to villa park and not seeing us get past the half way line, so content on defending we were, even though we were 1-0 down early on. he was one of, if not the most negative manager i've come across. i will always thank him for that title winning campaign and our great run in the play offs, but he had completely lost the plot long before the axe fell. the axe really should have followed relegation - with parachute payments and as a decent proposition for a new manager at that time, we would have had a far better chance of an instant return. this was as big a mistake as delia and the board ever made appointing grant or roeder.

also, you say a good manager can't become a bad one overnight. fair enough, but worthy was never a good manager. as i say, he did start well but was soon found out as tactically naive and some of his transfer dealings were shambolic. as soon as he lost that dressing room in 2005 he should have been out the door. if you have no respect from the players, whats the point? of course, its a sleight on the players we had at that time but how worthy left it made matters worse.

Chill Superman, Worthington won us the Championship with a weak team, Ashton came in 5 months too late ...... I can t see any value in slating the man now as he was a good servant to our club. We have moved on now and i hope King Lambert doesn t get lambasted if we struggle in this lg...

+1 That's why I reckon Walker done well he effectively inherited a team built by Stringer for years

As for Worthy, I cannot forgive anyone who signed an aging 5'8 fullback and played him as a centre back, a player who scored a wonder goal in Euro's and those signings after we were relegated...Let's not mention those. If he signed Ashton earlier it might of been a different story.

There were a lot of us around at that time Superman! I used to get REALLY pissed off with the "Worthy out" brigade, most of whom seemed to have season tickets around me in the snakepit the season after our relegation.

Before a match I stopped to discuss my views with some bloke shouting "If you want Worthy out sign our petition!". When he showed it to me it turned out the top of the form said "NCFC Poll- Should Worthy Stay or Go?". These idiots trying to hoodwink the board into rash decisions were directly responsible for two seasons of absolute dross!

You will argue that unless Worthy was sacked we would still have been relegated eventually, but we looked an average not an awful side until the atmosphere created by the minority turned sour. Thank God for Lambert, because we could have been left waiting a decade or more for the next great manager to come along and were very lucky to have struck gold after only three failures.

of course not! worthington was vastly overrated by a number of our fans. its true he did a good job early on and got us promoted, as i state, with a couple of loan signings which he wasn't interested in until he panicked and was forced to sign two forwards due to injuries to his first choice pairing who were not even league two standard. i know a good manager when i see one - lambert is one - worthington was not one. i backed him right up until the fulham debacle. dammit, i even backed him after that for another six months, but any fool could see he was clueless by that stage. the rot had set in and it required a major shakeup throughout the club. the club acted far, far too late and when they finally did act, unfortunately, the next three incumbents were off the scale when it came to cluelessness!!

i was not one who protested against him. i have always backed the team even if i've had doubts about certain managers. however, that was the closest i had ever come to demanding change by protesting outside. i came very, very close in fact! i love to see a manager given time to get things right, but he had been at the helm five years before even i realised just what a shambles he was making us. and once i found out the deeper routed issues happening under his watch i was desperate for him to be removed. it wasn't just about what was going on on the pitch... behind the scenes all manor of nonsense was raising its ugly head and had he not gone it would have got a lot worse, very quickly.
