talksport are saying it will be tougher to sign Damiao as Barca have entered the Race for his signature.I though we had first refusal?.
Totsfan- I don't officially there is an agreement re first refusal. I found this from when the partnership was announced. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/new...nternacionalannouncestrategicpartnership.html There is nothing that says we get first pick at their players.
i think i got the idea of first refusal from when we tried to sign him last season,i read something about first refusal, can't remember quite what it said now.
Think that it may have been an assumed view from many fans that we had first refusal, rather than anything concrete. However, if the Barca rumours are correct I don't think that this is really concerning, as I fully believe that the relationship we have will count for something, and that Damiao will be better suited to coming here rather than to Barcelona (hopefully in January)
Why would Barca be looking to off-load one of their own "prodigies" (according to a recent gossip report) only to buy in another at the cost of a few million (according to latest reports)? It doesn't make any sense. I smell the pungent overtones of media bull dung, here...
That's just it, I don't think they are looking to off-load anyone. I saw a gossip story recently on the BBC football website which said that someone like Chelsea was in for one of their young prodigies.
I know they let Bojan go but as well as their academy players they like to bring in 1 or 2 'outsiders' every summer so Damiao could be perfect in that respect.
I see what you're saying. Ultimately, it'll come down to where he believes he'll get the most amount of game-time, I suppose. I can't imagine that Barca will play him more than we would. Hopefully, that will make his mind up for him.
He's not going to turn down Barca if they're in for him, especially as he wouldn't be first choice at WHL.
Agreed and you couldn't blame him for it either. I'd turn down every club on the planet and sign for Spurs for minimum wage but footballers aren't fans like us so will go to the biggest and best offer available.
He probably won't be first-choice at Barca, though - last thing I heard, they have a few strikers that are pretty decent. As for not being first-choice at Spurs, perhaps not this season, because January is the Brazilian pre-season - but certainly next season he will be.
Let's not forget, also, that his best mate has just signed a long-term contract with us. I'd still be hopeful of our landing the lad, even if it is true that Barca are showing an interest.
On similar lines, Chelsea's bid to sign Neymar is also apparently going to be scuppered by Barca showing an interest. It's as if Talkballs are running the exact same story, and just replacing three words - Leandro for Neymar, Internacional for Santos, and Spurs for Chelsea (and vice versa) - and hoping nobody notices. Take no notice.
I wonder if they have a template stored? [Club A] are looking to scupper [Club B]'s January bid for long-term target [Player A], after the youngster put in an/some impressive performance/s for his club/country recently. A source close to [Club A] has revealed the manager's interest in bringing in some fresh blood, following some poor form from [Player B]. Meanwhile, [Club C] are monitoring the situation and may seek to revive the flagging career of [Player B], if the January bid is successful. Can I have a job, please?
