They know that once we've gone, another country with a new government will try to leave. So they want to make an example of the UK, but they need our £39bn and are under pressure from European Industry to reach a deal. There will be huge pressure on them over the next 6 weeks. It may be that the pressures get so great that they have to say to Ireland, you'll have to settle for less - very sorry but blame those who have a special place in hell. Perhaps, subliminally, Tusk is preparing for that in his hate speech today

Problem is, if it's tested, it may end up on appeal to the ECJ...who can be politically motivated in their rulings

Note the source of the story (Arron Banks) and that fact that no other quasi news sources are carrying it. Fake.

The Sun are reporting it. And it refers to Herbert Smith, which is a well known firm of litigation solicitors in the City of London

You wouldn't want any power over your life or money to be given to someone you didn't trust or have faith in, particularly if, after an argument, he tells you to go to hell.

Tell me why that's a ridiculous comparison. Tusk is very powerful.

Because nobody with power over my life has told me to go to hell. ' the usual specific law stuff'. Could you elaborate please.
The EU does not have a direct role in raising taxes or setting tax rates. The amount of tax you pay is decided by your government, not the EU. The EU's role is to oversee national tax rules – to ensure they are consistent with certain EU policies, such as: promoting economic growth and job creation.businesses from other EU countries.

Furthermore, EU decisions on tax matters require unanimous agreementby all member governments. This ensures that the interests of every single EU country are taken into account. So again I ask what power this man has over many British lives. I'm not being funny, just questioning your statement. Or if easier, how does Tusk or these laws you mention effect your life?

He mentions a softer Brexit (agree it's an old article) but Norway is off the table. I think that it has got to the stage where public opinion has changed and more people just want to leave on WTO or a free trade deal.
Shanker was talking today re Free trade deal

Well, as it was put in at our insistence, it must count as another May ****-up surely.<doh>

Seriously though, I think May has played a blinder. Not in her dealings with the EU of course, which have been disastrously pathetic, but in denying Parliamentary sovereignty (something, of course, that the EU itself was supposedly denying us previously). Having bought off the Tory rebels last week with the promise of a further amendable vote in two weeks, I now read that it won't now happen next week, but the week after, or even the week after that! Brilliant time-wasting, akin to a goalkeeper catching the ball standing up and then collapsing to the floor for a little lie down. I now hope that she's successful, and gets her tawdry deal through, probably with the help of Labour MPS desperate to avoid No-Deal (or maybe just wanting to piss off the ERG loons). Perhaps Corbyn himself might even be persuaded that Labour should support the deal in the 'national interest'.

As desperately frustrating and infuriating Corbyn's antics have been to Labour Remain voters like myself, he's also played a clever - if dangerous - political game, I think. He's judged that the poor saps in northern Labour constituencies who believed the Leave campaign lies, will appreciate the fact the he hasn't supported the calls for a new referendum and will stick with Labour in the next General Election. Of course he's also gambling on lefty 'metropolitan elite' Remain voters sticking with Labour too.

I predict May calling a summer GE, having triumphed over the European enemy, and banking on a post-Brexit Tory bounce. She will then be turfed out, Churchill-like, by Jezza Attlee.:emoticon-0140-rofl:

I don't want Tusk to have any influence over my life or my money, particularly after today. I won't be alone

Tax - That's wrong, the EU sets VAT rates. You pay VAT, so the EU rules affect you. There are lots of every day stuff that affect you. Light bulbs, hoovers, toaster, bits and pieces from all kinds of machinery. Why do you ignore the influence Tusk has over money? Is that not important to you? Have you see the extravagance of the EU? Some astronomically expensive building on the Continent. Any over here? Then there are the huge expense claims of the MEP's... I could go on...

The EU set a minimum vat rate of 15%. What do we pay? Any changes have to he unanimously agreed by all members not Tusk.
Yes light bulbs effect me, they enable me to see when it's dark. Is that a bad thing? Hoover's help me keep the house clean. I enjoy toast in the morning. What's your point? Does Tusk control lighting and hoovers? Do these things ruin your life? Would you desire expensive buildings over here? Surely that would cost more money. Huge expense claims is rife in all politicians and only til recently have we started to get a grip on our own. Really Goldy, what are these laws that people keep mentioning yet cant ever name that effect their lives directly. It's a weak arguement at best. Remember you said Tusk has this power over our lives. Do you now see what a weak statement that was.

Come on Stroller you know Corbyn will never be PM. I like your thoughts on May however I still don't think she will get her deal through.

Of course the President of the EU Council of Ministers has power over our lives. I've mentioned money and you've ignored it totally. Is your money not important to you, and how it is spent by central governing bodies? On day to day stuff, you can argue his influence is strongly diluted, and I agree, but the fact is, he's one of the most powerful men in Europe and he's just told most of the UK electorate to go to hell because of a democratic vote they took

Depends how you interpretate 'those who promoted Brexit' as to who he enquired what hell would be like. How and where have I ignored money. You're very vague. If you give some examples of this money that apparently I give, that Tusk spends then i could maybe answer more to your satisfaction. Your statement needs examples of fact otherwise it's just an opinion with no evidence to back it up. Remember, you made this statement, I'm just wondering what exact powers this man has over many British lives. Your answers are very limited to opinion only

I give up! Have it your own way. The Leader of one of the key institutions of an organisation we presently belong to and pay huge sums to does not affect our lives in any way... Blind!
