Watching a bit of the City/Wolves game and Boly's been sent off with a straight red for a slide tackle that was from the front, one footed and not even slightly raised, won the ball cleanly but cleared out Silva in the follow through.

Yes it wasn't necessary to slide in but is that not a textbook slide tackle? Since when is whether it was necessary or not a factor if it was a clean challenge?

If that is a straight red then I honestly think we might as well just straight up ban any type of slide tackle. At least then it'd be consistent and fewer reds would be given.

I think now it’s becuse
He was out of control
I’m watching bits of the match with no sound
On my iPad
So don’t know what the pundits have said

As far as I could tell it was straight from the textbook and didn't look out of control at all, yeah the lad got hurt but that's often a side effect of a well executed slide tackle.

I understand reds being given when it's two footed or the foot is raised but Boly won the ball clean as a whistle.

Yeh I know that but it is now deemed out of control
If you leave the ground
Supposedly

Judging by the increasingly strict rules about them year by year the governing bodies are more and more uncomfortable with players making slide tackles so they may well just ban them now.

It's likely going to happen at some point in the future at any rate.

Would loved to hear the views on a panel consisting of Norman Hunter, Tommy Smith, Ron Harris, Billy Bremmer, Nobby Stiles to name a few. I know some of these lads have passed away...god bless....but oh my.....what they would see of today's game they will probably think it's dying on it's feet. Doesn't seem to be a mans game anymore.....soft as sh*te some of these players now.

They were from the day when punching someone in the face was just a yellow card though.

I saw it. Thought it was a bit harsh. Seemed to me Silva collided with him rather than being taken out. Interesting they never showed the Fernandino booking much. He didn't seem to get any of the ball and was as I remember off the ground when he tackled

I just think if we're going down the route of anything that could potentially hurt someone being wrong then we're going to have to ditch 50/50 headers, any kind of tackle at all with any contact, running fast in case you pull a hammy.

Slide tackles are a joke now, I'm sick of seeing perfectly timed clean tackles being penalised because the tackled player rolls around afterwards. They may as well save the confusion, make a clean break and say that any slide tackle is an automatic red. At least it'd be consistent.

What a defence, are you a LAwyer by any chance. <cheers>
Seriously though I think all sliding tackles should be banned, as should tackles from behind, if they where it would take something from the game, but it would also protect the more skilful, which would easily compensate for any loss.

Would the ref have sent a city defender off fir an identical tackle? Don’t be silly! He wouldn’t have given a foul
I refer you to the two footed off the ground tackle on Saleh in the recent match between City and Liverpool. Ref bottled it although if Salah got through, he was in on goal. Ref gave a yellow and that decision could decide the Premier League this year

I honestly thought that was a good tackle personally - got the ball and little of the player but the wording fo the rules make it a grey area - Kompany didn't think it was a foul. I also didn't think Boly's challenge last night was a foul - got all of the ball and very little of the man

I personally think it's great to watch tackles going in. If you go through somebody from behind or go over the top of the ball then there's a red for that. I remember Joe Bolton going in for a tackle. You could hear the crowd roar was he was 20 yards away. The way the game is going at the moment to me it's killing it. It's a mans game and to see players act like pussies these days is a disgrace. If your going to play put your big boy pants on and give and take the tackles. None of this rolling around sh*t to get someone sent off. This is just my opinion...maybe I'm just old school.

Well I go back to Jimmy Scholar and Billy Elliot, but the game has moved on a bit since then,, mind you not always to its benefit, the changes to the offside being an example, but for me sliding tackles, like womens football, needs baning. <laugh>.

What after we won 10. 1 the other night I was thinking more of sticking a beard on them and letting them play for us :emoticon-0105-wink:
