There was a bit in the news yesterday about a mum desperately trying to keep her 14 year old out of trouble. Already excluded from school, two of his mates killed by stabbing, been chased by boys with knives 3 or 4 times. She was terrified, he was entirely fatalistic, ‘if it happens it’s happens, it’s normal, you can’t worry all the time about being stabbed’. I saw a documentary a few weeks back that included an episode where the young lad was going out for the evening. As he was going through the front door, his mum called out "Don't forget to take your knife with you." When questioned by the interviewer, the mum just shrugged and said he has to protect himself.
