  3. We don’t let punters interrupt our flow, Sweats. Our keyboardist threw one lad in the river for taking liberties.

Not in my experience. We tell the venue what we charge and then negotiate from there. The only gigs where there's a set fee are the big festivals where there are lots of bands and the organisers have got a set payment structure. Maybe it's different for you, but we wouldn't do it for £300, unless like I said it was in a mate's barn for a party.

TBH, I'm not sure how and why you charge what you do, but HIAG is closer to the mark with what typical pub bands charge. I am friendly with the landlord of a local venue that books bands all through the year and the typical costs are between £300-£400. The only time it gets anywhere near 4 figures is a New Year's Eve gig?
Obviously the pro outfits charge more, but as HIAG has said previously, you pay to see them.

The gigs we play are ticketed so the venue are pulling in money from the door and from bar sales. We're not a pub band, so we don't play gigs where people stroll in and out for free. They are there because they've paid to be there. Also there are 8 members of our band, so our fee is based roughly on everybody earning £100 each from the gig, but as I've said we tend to pay the Singer and our soundman, and the rest goes into the pot to pay for rent on the studio and to maintain equipment and to cover people's fuel costs.

Then you're comparing chalk and cheese mate, which is what HIAG alluded to the other day when we had a similar conversation. I also know the owner of a local venue that won't book bands that play in pubs because he charges an entrance fee. He believes that he offers a more professional setup with a sound man etc. and charges accordingly. He says that he can't charge punters on a Saturday, if they have played a pub without an entrance fee the week before.
