The ended really badly. Chased Maynard offering stupid amounts and ended up paying not as much but still stupid amount for Beckford And to think we paid £1M 1 year later for Jamie Vardy
That's a name I haven't heard in a long while - Sven had a massive hardon for him and tried to spend our entire season's transfer budget on him. Kinda wished he had as instead we ended up with Jermaine Beckford. Just looked Maynard up and seems like he was unlucky with injuries as he was struck down whenever he was becoming half decent and now coincidentally is playing alongside Beckford at Bury in League 2. Also random - Bury's captain is Neil Danns and vice captain is Nicky Adams. Bury are the Sunderland to our Man Utd.
Stephen Dawson is there aswell who came through our academy Its a no wonder why Sven’s trolley dash ended so badly. Other then Schmeichel, Nugent and Konchesky. None of them did anything for us Mills and Beckford the big money signing’s both of their careers went rapidly downhill after signing as did Neil Danns Peltier and Bamba have since won promotion with Cardiff John Pantsil, Michael Ball, Michael Johnson all fell off the face of the earth and had their contracts terminated early Sean St. Ledger turned out to be like Benalouane. Getting paid everyweek to tour the world Gelson Fernandes has never been seen again in this country. It was all an expensive car crash And just think even with the success story in Schmeichel he wasnt nowhere near as good as Andy Lonergan! So even when we got it right we signed the wrong keeper!
Tottenham have activated a clause in Toby Alderweirdelds contract that extends it by a year but opens up a £25M release clause in the summer Man U will get him now
Good news for us really as someone will take him and spurs will never pay for Maguire. I’m torn on Maguire tbh - a top defender but ifnwe were tonget rid, we would be left with £80m plus Benkovic, Soyuncu, Evans and Morgan which is still quite a solid defence...
Means it is more likely that they will be after both - out of their current batch of CBs only Lindelof isn't rumoured to be leaving.
I agree - it is Morgan being on the cusp of signing a new contract that is making me think that we are planning a time without Maguire. Evans and Benkovic can play on the left side where he likes to play so it works out.
Fousenni Diabate is close to signing for Turkish side Sivasspor on loan according to reports in Turkey and France
Claude Puel has said there is more positives then negatives to recalling Harvey Barnes I think Diabate leaving will see him recalled With it being FA Cup weekend we will learn more if we allow him to play for West Brom or not
Can see him starting behind Vardy given how well Maddison has done on the left and back to 2 in midfield
Totally agree, Ed. If you're hoping to play long term in England then do your loan spell here and get to understand the English game, culture and language. I would guess football in Turkey is totally different to football in England. On the subject of playing abroad, it must be very difficult for players like Iborra and Silva to come into a team like ours that is predominantly English and be asked to play an almost different game to what they are used to. Wolves have been more successful by bringing in a group of Portuguese players rather than just one, and they immediately have a bond and a common way of playing. But even they have been found out if you play a more 'in your face' English style of game against them. I'd feel much more confident of bringing in the likes of Bowen from Hull or Dack from Blackburn than someone who's been playing in a southern European league.
Quick one on Harvey Barnes. So far this season he has 9 goals and 7 assists This time last year James Maddison had 6 goals and 5 assists
Im warming to recalling him and playing him behind Vardy and Maddison on the left after how poor Gray appears
