Sometimes the seagulls realise that following this particular trawler will bring little reward. The crows just look on from the beach in disbelief.

Some of us are rooting for ya.
    Can't bear the alternatives.
I think you're going to have to win away at both though to do it tbh.

Huge result and performance from City. If Liverpool extended the gap to 10 points, even this early on, I think that would have sealed the title for them. Fernandinho and Bernardo Silva were both outstanding. Completely outclassed Liverpool's workhorse midfield of Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum.

That being said, I still think Scousers are the favourites. The reason being I don't trust City defensively at all. Ederson's decision-making is erratic and they look vulnerable from set-pieces and crosses. Plus, Liverpool's defeat today wasn't a battering; it was a fairly close game between two quality sides. City edged it, though.

Liverpool's 1st defeat in 21 games came against the current Champions. City have lost to a toothless Chelsea team, Palace at home (which should have been a home banker) and Leicester away. City have crumbled in other games against lesser sides. Liverpool haven't shown such a glaringly vulnerability in that sense.

The momentum could swing City's way after this result, but Liverpool have a healthy 4-point gap and look to have some natural leaders all over the pitch, especially van Dijk, who for me is one of the best centre-backs in the world.

So unless van Dijk or Alisson get serious injuries, Liverpool are still the favourites IMO.

The reason why I haven't mentioned your lot in the title race is as follows. Spurs are only 6 points behind Liverpool and 2 behind City. Mathematically, they should be mentioned in the same vein as the other two. However, I do think the lack of investment in the Summer will affect you in the final third of the season. Also - and I could be completely wrong on this - but Son has hit form for you at a time where he is about to leave for the AFC Asian Cup. His absence could be costly because I don't see anyone else in your side that offers what he does. I guess we'll see if Moura can do a job.

I know he won't be gone for longer than a month, but as we have seen in the second half of most seasons, all it takes is a few poor results for a team's fortunes to change.

Of all the Spurs defeats this season, the only one they deserved to lose in the PL was v City. The others were muckups by us. If only...…...but that's Spurs!

    Not for me.

Our squad isn’t deep enough to cope with the two domestic cups, the CL and the Prrem - and we’re too inconsistent. Something has to give.

It would need both City and Pool to go on a losing run and for us to find some form of consistency for it to happen.

    Unlikely.

The good thing is that we only took 1 pt (from the now)
"6 pointer" games last season. IMHO not losing to Citeh
and the Poool will be sufficient if we are still in the title
    fight come April.

Although I expect another Watford/Wolves game down the
line, there is still some fertile ground on the "like for like" games
    to try and improve on.

Did you know that Juventus went the entire 2011-12 season undefeated?

I have to ask, since their fans haven't been crowing about that fact on Twitter since last night. The Nomads, on the other hand...

Somewhere out there, a Daily Wail hack is trying to concoct a way to blame Raheem Sterling for this...
