Good speech by Jeremy Hunt in Singapore this morning, extolling the virtues of Global Britain and the opportunities that Brexit gives us. He's rising in the leadership stakes to replace May, and has one big advantage over her. He has business acumen and has a very successful business career behind him. This attribute he shares with his competitor, Sajid Javed, although Javed did not have the advantage of the first class education that Hunt had.

If, as seems likely, May's Brexit deal is rejected by Parliament in two weeks time, she may be forced to resign. Hunt and Javed will surely head the list to replace her as PM.

Two men who have changed their minds about Brexit because they see supporting it as the best way for them to become PM. Very principled.

Have a look at how successful Singapore have been since they were kicked out of the federation of Malaysia in 1965

No, they accept the result of a democratic vote. Unlike the bad losers in Parliament who want to deny it by any means possible.

Their job is to do what's best for the country, not what's best for their own careers. If they believe that the Brexit vote was a mistake, they should be doing all they can to mitigate or reverse it.

By "their", I assume you mean Hunt and Javed rather than bad losers like Umuna, Soubry and Adonis. The fact is, as businessmen, they see the benefits of an economy that is adaptable and swift footed and able to take advantage of historic global relationships, rather than be tied to a failing juggernaut led by the likes of the disgusting Junckers and "The monster" Selmayr.

The bad loser politicians are so tunnel visioned about the EU, they can't see the benefits beyond an organisation with which we trade less each year and had a trade deficit of £67 billion in 2017

We aren’t trading less with them each year. Less as a share of total trade, which is kind of a given, but it’s a reasonably consistent trend.

Why is "less of total trade" a given?

Because on average you’re talking about much more developed economies with naturally lower growth rates and population increases.

So you admit that the share of what we sell to the EU states is decreasing, and the share of sales to non-EU is increasing. Your chart shows that. In 2006, the EU accounted for 54.5% of UK exports. By 2017, this had diminished to 44.5%.

Compare that with what we buy from the EU. In 2006, it represented 28% of total UK imports. But by 2017, this had risen to around 70%.

The EU has a lot to lose from a no-deal fall out because the UK is a major customer for many of the EU states.

Of course it does. There are no winners from a no deal apart from the small number of people betting against the pound.

My point was just that the point you made earlier is a myth, regularly trotted out.

It’s no good talking to the Corbynites about business Goldie! They want us living in grey blocks of flats with red flags flying. They want us to call everyone comrade. Or ‘friends’ or was it ‘brothers’.? We are all to be equal (except the ones that are more equal).
Remember it wasn’t the Russians that did the poisoning in Salisbury as they were just tourists that came to see the famous 123m spire. :1980_boogie_down:
I bet all those that fought for us in the wars would be proud of some in this country today.<doh>

:emoticon-0100-smile It was interesting that when May postponed the vote on her Brexit vote, the pound dropped in value. City analysts were asked whether the fall in investor confidence was due to a possible no-deal. They answered, no, mostly it's the prospect of a Corbyn government.

If he ever came in, we'd sink like a stone

Corbyn is a muppet. He will never be PM because he is anti- everything British.
What idiots would vote for him if it came to it?

I also notice that the great London ‘night mayor’. Saddick Khan is getting some flak for his firework display which cost £2.3m. Rather than worry about record knife crimes/drugs/gangs/assaults on woman/ racist attacks/ nasty violence in homes, not to forget the record homeless and ‘foodbanks’ (As some have outlined on here). Or the fact he is the worst Mayor of London that I can remember. Even Livingston with his problems with Jews was better... ( problem with Jews again)?
All he has to worry about is to politicise a firework display. Not only was it a pathetic attempt to remaon but actually puts us down as a nation.
I wonder how many EU countries displays Encouraged the UK for staying in the EU? Answers on a postage stamp... there will be plenty of room.

Until our rail system goes back to being owned by the people it won’t change the fact that it’s all about profit

**** the Tories of yesteryears and anyone you voted for them back then ... they sold the people out. And also bollocks to the current labour lot who are just as blue and greedy

If the ****ers Sky ever interviewed me I would say that the new rolling stock for Thameslink is very good and a massive improvement imo at least it’s close now to the norm I use in France excluding the TGV and AGV ... The UK can only dream of a transport system like that I’m afraid
