We weren't great but it didn't feel like we deserved to lose on the balance of play. It's the way we reacted to conceding that cost us. We didn't try to work our way back into it, we just got frantic and tried to force things leaving us open to lots of errors. Fair play to Wolves though, they've given us 2 good games and battled hard. I felt bringing Moura on was a poor call. Davies had a really bad game and should have been replaced whilst the Sissoko-Winks partnership just doesn't give us enough when we're up against it.
Its not as simple as that. This is the stage of the season where squad depth really becomes apparent. After we made the Lucas sub, we had no one else on the bench to change the game. 2 subs remaining, and not 1 person who would be able to impact a flat, lethargic, exhausted group of players. We’ve done extremely well picking up as many points as we have recently, but I’d expect a few more games like that over the coming weeks. Some of the recent title challenge talk is totally laughable, we just need to continue to be focussing on consolidating 3rd or 4th spot, and sign a couple of players in the transfer window to give us a boost till the end of the season.
Eriksen and Lloris the worst of a poor bunch today. Lloris should save two of those three, having recaptured his form after a poor start, in two of the last three games he could've saved roughly four of the five goals conceded. Think Poch really might need to start thinking about giving Gazza a run. 7 games, 7 wins... There really isn't much more he can do to be knocking on the door. As for Eriksen, ****ing shambles of a display. Passing was atrocious and he didn't make himself available at any time for our forward play.
They complettel bossed the 2nd half. We created nothing and they looked dangerous every attack. We deserved to lose all right...
Really? We've played 10 games in 35 days, including Arsenal (twice), Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter Milan. We won 7, drew one (in Barcelona) and lost 2. This week we've played 3 games in 6 days, with a squad that's paper thin due to injuries and money issues. The surprise isn't that we lost today but that we were in second place when we did. If we're a joke, what are the 18 clubs below us?
I think it’s only fair to give wolves some credit. They are far from an “average” side. They’ve already had some other impressive results. They haven’t played as many matches as us this season, and they managed to take advantage of a tired team by exposing our weaknesses in certain areas, and taking their chances. Fair play to them. But if we want to finish in this top 4, we can’t ignore January. That’s 5 defeats already this season.
Need to bounce back on NYD at Cardiff, but difficult to see where the spark will come from. Running on empty....
They played a smart game. They sat off in the first half and let us tire ourselves out. By the second half, we'd really gone and they took us to the cleaners. Well played them. Now, we need to rest Winks and Sissoko and try and get a couple of fresh faces in. We've another ****ing league game on Tuesday night in Cardiff before Tranmere on Friday and Chelsea on Tuesday. **** me!
Wolves are not average...inconsistent yes...but not average...they out played us in the second half, out run us, out fought us and imho their manager out thought Pochettino... just need to dust ourselves down and go again...and not over react coys
Thought Davies was poor and his early booking stopped him committing to 50-50 balls ... Hate to say it but Eriksen seems to be believing his write ups...played like he thought he was way better than the opposition without earning the right to play.
Hopefully be assessing who has played the least minutes recently and utilising those players. I know Son has been in good form, but it feels a little bit like we’re also playing him in every game for the sake of it before he leaves to represent his country. The guy does so much running and really should have been rested today. Lucas hasn’t had as many minutes and could have started. We really struggled to get in behind that wolves defence and his speed and fresher legs would have been very useful. - perhaps Rose for Davies at half time would have helped that too. Skipp needs another start. Despite how good Sissoko has been, he needs a rest before he ends up injured and we have even less options in the middle of the park! And KWP needs as much inclusion as possible. He’s by far our best right back at the moment. Other than that, I can’t think of anyone else. With injuries considered, it’s a major headache at the moment.
From what I’ve seen this season, some of the points they’ve dropped have been down to naivety from a manager and many players who are new to the premier league. But they’ve beaten Chelsea and us, as well as drawing with arsenal and united. Watford are average, and losing to them was a joke, but wolves are a decent side in overall ascendancy.
Absolutely. Spot on. And you only had to look at the performance of our lot to see that even before wolves turned the screw our attitude was “let’s just chill at this game speed for as long as we can”. Too much football in a short period using the same players has taken its toll. It’s frightening how much we’ve still got left. A real test of resolve now. Never mind the 5’s and 6’s, we need to just grind out some results.
