Just incase some of you were unaware, yesterday chamberlain came on at half time for the U21's when they were 1-0 down to Israel and he ripped the whole game up and set up everyone of Englands goals to win 4-1
Oh good, credit goes to arsenal for bringing him through and showing him the ropes, that's what it'll be now, saints won't be mentioned anywhere in the kids progression.
Don't think it was on tv but i saw the extended highlights. everytime he got the ball he looked like setting some one up. Played amazing.
Hence these snippets from the FA's report on the game: "But Pearce switched things around during the break, with the introduction of Arsenal pair Henri Lansbury and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making most impact." "He also singled out Oxlade-Chamberlain, who moved to Arsenal this summer shortly before Lansbury signed for West Ham on loan." "England saved their best for the second half when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on the scene. The Arsenal winger made an almost immediate impact and within 13 minutes of the break they were level." Although we did at least get one mention: "Former Southampton winger Oxlade-Chamberlain played a part in three of Englandâs goals, and Lansbury scored the fourth, in stoppage time, to seal a fine victory."
But he does play for Arsenal... and you were mentioned, so what's the problem there...? They weren't going to say 'former Southampton winger' before every mention of his name were they? It's already ridiculous that we have to be constantly reminded of a players club in a BBC article, as it is.
Who cares? he's an aresnal player now, we got a nice transfer fee. Gl to the kid His dad's a prick still
Indeed, it was the same with Walcott, a few years back. I've been listening to The Monday Night Club on Radio 5, and the talk got around to where Walcott might play for England. And guess who was the only one who mentioned Southampton, in context with the subject..? None other than Steve Claridge. Even Alan Shearer failed to do that. In case you're interested, they were talking about Walcott, playing through the middle, for England. All contributors thought it was an OK idea, but wondered whether he'd be any good, and Claridge was the only one who said he had experience of playing there for Saints. Credit where its due.
True we were mentioned but i don't want arsenal getting credit for a player that came through our academy,if chamberlain succeeds no-one will hear about southamptons input, same with gareth bale and theo walcott.Wait until we hear about the talent that wenger unearthed, just like fabregas.
Lol and there's me thinking claridge is a you know what! i just think it would be nice if the club that helped young players come through got some credit when these players become superstars.
Totally agree There's no doubt that Arsenal will polish him, by exposing him to better players and games. That's a symptom of being in the Premier League. But the player that they have would be nowhere if it hadn't have been for the skills and efforts of the staff at Saints, coaching the potential out of him, in the first place. As for Claridge, I find him unfairly maligned by a lot of supporters, not just Saints fans. He actually does say a lot of sensible things, as he sees them. By comparison, there's an awful lot of fawning guff talked by other pundits. Claridge doesn't stargaze, and that's a big plus with me.
Glad to see Chambo showing what he can do! If he continues to do well it will only be a good thing for us (Add ons and further enhancing the academys rep). Cheers for the heads up NorthLS and for the link Paddy
I don't particulary like him to be honest, but more for his personality than what he says or doesn't say about saints.Agreed the coaches that have helped him through tem years must take some credit as they have obviously looked after him. What an academy we've got, proud that so many good players started at saints, just a shame we couldn't see more of these players in the red and white.
Well my guess would be that in the deal must have been something to do with international apperances, whether this was U21 or Full I don't know, so money for us all that matters. Nice to see he has learnt the over theatrical diving since his short time at Arsenal, yes it was a penalty but seriously Chambo you haven't been shot!!! Is Cork over 21 now?!? Its funny how he was a certain with SP when on Chelsea's books, but as soon as he becomes a Saints player he is not chosen and again Chambo now he is on Arsenal books he must play! But then it saves Cork getting injured and keeps him fresh for our games!!!
He is 22 but i don't think you have to be 21 or under to be picked, swear someone who is 23 has played for them before but i can't remember who.
