On Scudamore and having read into this more and had a quick google it appears that you could pay for 10 3G pitches with 250k, but clubs would rather donate it to a multi-millionaire? Also, why an even quarter of a million each, shouldn't it be different amounts based on placing, as that's what he believes in right?

Shambles.

“Shambles” isn’t strong enough.

Actually, I’m that pissed off with this that later today I will email several organisations about it, Saints included.

It is appalling.
I'm going to do the same. As a referee who referees at grassroots level I'm very much aware of the state of it. Clubs at Wessex League level for example are desperate for money to keep going. A lot of players aren't paid just so they can play. It's a ****ing disgrace.

Would be interesting to know how many 3/4G pitches there are in Southampton.

I feel bad at times - Wessex League referees are apparently the best paid in the country for that level. Clubs have to find £140 from every home game just to pay the officials. That may not sound like a lot but gates for Wessex League games are rarely more than 50 at div 1. So that's £250 at best through the gates and well over half of that goes to the match officials.

How much of that 140 do you get though?

Is the £140 split evenly or does the main ref get a bigger cut? Not entirely sure how much they get when I play, I'll have to remember to ask someone on Saturday.

If you get on your knees in the refs changing room before kick off , Tom also chucks in a late controversial penalty free of charge.
