I think it just confused people the way it's carried out, with the last post and then the refs whistle which sounds like the end of things, when actually it's the beginning of the silence. It seems to happen every year.
Some people are just too thick to follow the clear and simple instructions they were given. However, I got the distinct impression that the applause kicked off mainly in the visitors' section before our home grown morons joined in.
Anyone who does anything other than stand respectfully and reflectfully in silence for the prescribed amount of time is a ****. FACT.
