The point is that you’re seeking offence where there is none. Be a patriotic Englishman. No one cares but you’d rather pretend you’re somehow being stopped by an invisible liberal force.
The Tories have promised lots more money for the NHS. I haven’t heard any Tory MPs protesting against this.
Because economic growth is much lower than was forecast and is expected to continue to be lower, the only way to fund this is through tax rises. Hammond is talking about targeting tax breaks on pension saving, which are hugely beneficial for the better off. Some Tory MPs, largely the ones who want a no deal Brexit, are threatening to vote against the budget if this measure is included.
Now, I personally benefit from this tax break, and think everyone should be powerfully incentivised to save for retirement. But if money is needed it does seem a sensible place to get it from, as it’s the better off who will pay. And to be honest I only have a couple more years of contributions to go, so it won’t be too expensive for me.
But the attitude of these crappy MPs stinks. Happy to promise popular investments but determined to protect the interests of their mates so that the only way to pay for stuff is to cut other stuff, the worst form of ****ty, lying populism. This party is unfit to govern, obviously (as is the opposition).
Even if they get this through it won’t raise the cash they need, because those at the top of the scale are the best at moving their cash into more ‘tax efficient’ ways of saving than pensions. Those with less nous will simply save less for pensions, meaning they will be more dependent on the state when they do retire.

The Tories are certainly unfit to govern. I think Labour should at least be given a go before they are declared to be so.
We’ll see won’t we, they will have to persuade enough voters that they are competent and trustworthy first, and I don’t think they are doing a very good job of that at the moment. I really expect a hung parliament after the next election, and perhaps for many more to come. If our politicians can grow up and learn to work together for the general benefit I think this is a good thing. I really don’t want any party to get a massive majority.

The Germans and the English (and Welsh) have different attitudes to the EU. The Germans see a grand federal project to unite all countries into one. The English see a trading organisation. Neither is wrong but both approaches should be accommodated.

The problem is that any majority is only going to be based on about 37% of the vote, which means, as always, the majority of the electorate are against the government of the day. This whole thing of Brexit came about through those means - in any other EU. country you would have needed a coalition of parties all offerring a referendum, which is never going to happen. I would like to believe that if Brexit is going to happen then any legislative powers returning to the UK. from Brussels, will be allocated to the strengthening of regional government in the UK. Britain is already the most centralized of the G8 countries, without Westminster gaining more powers.

I think you’re right, Stanislaw. A succession of hung parliaments would say to me (at least) that we’re heading for the time when the old political systems of left v right and authoritarian v libertarian are becoming antiquated and unrepresentative of the minds of yer actual voter.

come on Watford, i'll agree the Tories have nightmares on things but would you trust Abbott/Corbyn and the rest of the muppet show to run our economy? Time and time again labour has left our country worse off (and that was when then had a few good people). This lot are shocking.

But that’s what it’s become, hasn’t it? Brexit or Remain transcends the typical political divide as do many other issues; strangely enough, more so the economy these days.

It's just theatre, designed to give us the illusion of choice, whilst ultimately, nothing ever improves. Our taxes are used to fund never ending wars against created opponents, the gap between rich and poor grow continually, homelessness is never remotely dealt with, life becomes ever more expensive, wages remain low, it becomes impossible to buy a house if you are 40 or below.
It is a farce, an insult and we should reject this archaic **** system.

I'm pretty sure if Momentum (sorry, Labour) somehow win the next election they will move very quickly to close out the possibility of the Tories ever forming another government. You only have to look at the way they have taken over every facet of control within the party to see their vision of where they would take the role of a Labour government. That more than anything is why Labour face an uphill struggle to win power. I think the only chance of a Labour government is a coalition with the Libs trying to curb the fantasist elements of the extreme left...
I was only joking because your post wasn’t in your usual Queen’s English. I don’t really disagree that a Labour majority wouldn’t prove to be a great thing but the chances of that are slim.
I’d like to see a coalition of Labour & Dems given a shot if they can cobble together a majority between them. Corbo would have to be PM but it would be centre-left overall, hopefully with the likes of Starmer and Umunna stepping up to senior roles.
Whenever the next election is, it’ll probably give an even more fragmented result than last time. Not sure the Tories could rely on the Irish nutters to make the numbers up again for a billion quid.
