Well, if Kermode liked it I might have to revise my gut feel, though the review in the Times is very funny. Apparently Bradley Cooper, co star and director, best known for being in the Hangover and being the voice of the (excellent) raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy has now turned serious and wants to explore ‘the wound of being human’. Oh **** off.

Have you watched Bladerunner 2049 yet Strolls? I seem to remember that I seriously disagree with Kermode on that one too.

Mark Kermode is a strange being for me.....I find him very knowledgeable and clever in his film reviews and love his sarcastic wit.....but I still feel the want sometimes to smash his face in with a hammer....

About the way you feel about me then?

Don’t worry, you would be far from alone in having these feelings. Just ask my family.

Apologies for the delayed reply, but I've been incommunicado for nearly 24 hours due to the ****ing awful Virgin Bleeding Media. That's a whole separate review, though. No, I haven't watched 2049 yet, the DVD remains unopened. My idea was to get the family together to watch the original, followed by the new version, but I'm getting resistance from certain quarters. My son and I will probably wind up watching them without the others at some point.

Do the Virgin Media Review. I switched to them for phone and broadband in August because the prices BT charge for customer loyalty are extortionate. Virgin came and installed the box in a cupboard when I wasn’t looking, then ran away, leaving the front of the house a mess with wires everywhere including going over the top of the garden wall. The WiFi speed was outstanding in the cupboard and **** everywhere else. At least five more visits before it was finally tidied up on Thursday. Have to say the WiFi speed everywhere in the house now is brilliant and much better than BTs best equipment, for about half of the cost.......for the first year.

113 mbps download average since the rewire and 7 up (thankfully I never upload anything). £30 a month........for the first year. Perhaps the lines aren’t as busy here as in London.

If 5g is as fast as is being claimed could be the end for wires into the house anyway.

I hardly use the wifi in the house (I'm on Virgin too), wife and son on it all the time. I use my 4G, and with speeds like this who wouldn't......

Bring on 5G - will also keep me in work for another 5 years hopefully!!

That’s impressive. Sadly I can’t get any phone signal at all, let alone 4G, down in the basement kitchen where I spend most of my time.

You can buy signal boosters from your network provider, but they're not cheap (about £150) if you want coverage down there, but your wifi sounds pretty good at over 100Mbps if you're getting that down there. I've got a wifi booster upstairs as my house is really solid brick and the signal struggles to get around the house.

I have no idea what all those numbers mean. I don't have any complaints about speed (my wife might differ), but when the whole ****ing thing goes down (no TV, no phone, no internet) for 18 hours, it's a bit of a bloody nuisance. At least we could all get round the piano and sing, though.

Was that just your house or was it a local area thing. I’ve had a couple of letters saying that they were working on the network in our area and that might affect services, but didn’t notice any difference. The BT service used to disappear for a bit, or slow down infuriatingly, pretty regularly. But only briefly, 18 hours sounds rather irritating.

No, it was the local area. When I phoned to complain, the recorded message (from that horribly smug-sounding woman) was that they were very sorry that there were problems in (insert postcode), but that they were working very hard to solve them and that they expected them to be resolved by (insert time). In our case, I phoned at 9PM and their expected fix would be by 4PM the next day.

I've got an app on my phone called Traffic Monitor...

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.radioopt.widget

I use it for work for checking speeds of mobile sites, but it can check out your wifi too, plus tell you which apps are using up the most of your data allowence - really useful (a bit geeky) app
